Headset

TurtleBeach reigns supreme, since the whole of SUaF use them, including myself.
But fact is, you can have the best headset out there, if your sound card doesn't match up, you're only wasting money.

No, no, no you misunderstand. -
I can make BR's scream blue murder with my JVC Xplosive headphones and I can hear breath down quite easily.
I can also hear a ghost from great distances like from GR Spawn on Lab - half way to B, using only an on board sound card with no adjustable equalizer settings.

I definitely would recommend these. -

Impossible.
The furthest that you can hear a ghost without breathe down is 24 meters, and it doesn't matter how good your headset is.
The furthest you can hear a ghost with breathe down is 14 meters.
(Note that there is also the random bug where you can hear a ghost from very far away but it sounds like he's coming from all around you, this occasionally happens as most Ghost Mode players know). -

Note the word 'like', I'm hardly measuring:rolleyes: -

By saying your headset lets you hear from an especially far range, you're inferring that you can hear from further than other people with your special headset.
That's simply not true. -
I spent £40 on mine and ace most GM games i play.... Everyone who suggests expensive ones are the one who care about the brand

I've had them for over a year and sat on them and dropped them god knows how many times and they still work perfectly haha. Unfortunately my mic doesnt work no more.... but that is my own fault my nephew got hold of it and tried to eat it haha XD -

I'll admit, they're slightly less comfortable at first, but they're LAN headsets, they're designed to drown out outside noise. -

Man, almost no one in here even KNOWS what a quality headset is....
The BEST headset you can buy for this game? Stax electrostatic sr007 Mark 2 Omegas, something probably less than 1% of you can even afford. If spending $1500+ on a set of cans doesn't tickle your fancy, you should do some research on what electrostatic headphones are, and how they work. ( http://www.stax.co.jp/Export/SR007mk2.html ) They are miles better than a conventional headphone, and they can pick up sounds and cues that are outside the frequency range and response range of regular headphones. There was a CS Source player who had enough money ($1500+) to grab some Stax, and he said that he could hear people reloading halfway across map, and sound cues that were simply not present at ALL on his normal "every day" headphones.
Then for perfectly reproduced surround sound, you need to spend another 2 grand on a Smyth Realiser, which reproduces 5.1 surroundsound through headphones, JUST as well as a set of high quality bookshelf speakers, because it actually calibrates the sound to your inner ear shape, which, obviously, traditional 5.1 speakers don't need to do, since the sound flows naturally.

Too bad almost no one here can afford a setup like that. If you could, I doubt you'd even be playing Crossfire in the first place...heck, if you can afford a setup like this, go play CS Source or CS: go and go win a tournament, you lazy bums....
Ok something more down to earth?
Beyerdynamic MMX 300 is probably the best *HEADSET* you can buy, for integrated headphones+microphone. For headphones without mic, you can get a Beyer DT770/880, or some Senn 600+'s or something.
This is assuming that you have the hardware to drive the headphones and can get 5.1 dolby digital surround (dolby digital live) out of them. The Smyth Realiser doesn't need that, since it actually takes analog input channels from a sound source and outputs them to the cans.... -
I'm about to buy the Razer Chimaera 5.1 wireless headset, and I don't want to spend $140 without being sure I'm buying something worth the money.
Anyone have the headset or hands-on experience with it?
No, don't spend money on Razer Headsets, they're not nearly as good as their mice and [possibly] keyboards.
I had the Razer Carcharias and Razer Megalodon, and they both didn't fit my liking [returned them both within the month], so I switched over to some non-Razer brand headsets, and my Soundblaster Alpha has lasted me a couple of months, and I hear everything

I use this http://www****ullcandy.com/shop/2011-hesh-black-gray, my cheap arse CA headphones broke, so I went to RadioShack and got them.
Pretty decent headphones I must say, good enough for me to get 3.0+ during pubs at 10-30 sound.
Edit: mmmhm, somehow like is censored, but it's skullcandy. (headphones, headset same thing

all headphones are good as long as they have good bass, the main thing is the sound card.
