You kept trying to say "intellectual" was a noun.
It is, but it can be an adjective as well. Which in the statement it was used in.. It was an adjective.
Also! It can be an adverb, if you add "ly" to the end! Just for your future knowledge!

conversation is NOT an action you idiot.
by itself, conversation is a NOUN.
HAVING conversation = action
in such case, describing the the noun within the action - "having" an intellectual conversation, in which case intellectual describes the noun, conversation.
how hard is this to understand? i would hate to be your boss when you get a job trying to explain basic grammar to you. you WILL have to learn sometime!

He doesn't understand how this works. Intelligent conversation = correct. Intellectual conversation = correct.
Intellectual conversation in words that would be easier for him to understand but aren't necessarily the correct words to use would be; Intellectual conversation is a "group" phrase. It uses "intellectual" in this case being used as an adjective to describe the conversation as being "intelligent" the conversation is the noun in this, as the conversation is "intellectual" it would be worded as "the conversation between intellectuals".
