A way to improve ping?
So I'm from Texas and for some reason my ping will jump from 67 to over 900 then back down to about 170-200. It never did this before, my internet connection is steady and hasn't been tampered with and I'm not in Brasil or anything. Is there a way to make it better? Because I can barely get kills half the time it's so bad.

That's not the reason. I've always had wireless (used to play on a laptop with a plugin mouse) and until this last patch (the IP restrictions) my ping never left the 66-74 range. -

Download any toolbars? Does it only happen during prime hours (5-7pm)? Got a auto-update program for your programs? Anyone else on your bandwidth? -

Oh and what would I do on Fridays then? Go out with friends? Pfft I got the widow fist and her five daughters ready to party EVERY weekend. (Totally joking btw. That'd be weird.) -

No toolbars because I hate the space they take up on my browser, No prime hours just random times during gameplay, Only thing I have set to auto update is CF currently and I'm the only one home. Not sure what else it could be. -

Inorder to fix this problem, you must shut down your computer completely, unplug the internet wire from your wireless router and from the computer case itself, then, unplug anything else that is connected to the computer and the wireless router, plug it all back in, start up your computer again, and your ping is extremely likely to be back in the range it's suppose to be. But be careful, this can cause a Blue Screen of Death. Have caution when unplugging wires connected to the router and computer case.
My advice, to you. -

Samurai Hacks are for people who can't do anything on their own and don't deserve anything more than a kick in the nuts. And VAT I've got AT&T. My dad said the recent heatwave here may have fried some circuits or something but I'm usually on between 3 and 6 pm. -

Oh and Fear I'll go try that. I'll be back in a sec to tell you how it works -

Here is a little known sad fact, some DSL company's will sell the times your not on your internet to someone else. If your only on your DSL cable between 3-6 they may sell the time your not on your cable to someone else. So there is a chance that someone else to on your internet cable with you and neither of you may know it. Its like they are selling you a car, and then selling someone else your car with out either of you knowing about it. -
If you got a wireless, thats the reason.
Negative. I use wireless and have a stable 67.
Get better internet, or close any other programs that require an internet connection.
turn a microwave on, that destroys wireless internet.
anyways, many times its probably not your internet at all (if you have wireless), it could be something interfering with your signal. -
It worked a lot better than other things I've tried. It'll jump maybe once or twice from 60's to 160's in the first two minutes or so then it evens out at the lower end of that spectrum quite nicely. Thanks so much!FearTheGeek wrote: »Alright, I'm sure it'll work. Because, I am a geek, correct? -

No problem. If it continues, then shut down your computer by puling out the plug that is connected to the computer case. If the problem proceeds, then switch your wireless router with another one, if you have another one. If you don't have another router, repeat the process of pulling out everything connected to the computer and the router, and check again. Doing this will surly put your ping back to normal.
But, before doing this, just simply unplug the plug that powers on the computer case, then plug it back in, and check if your ping is fixed. If not, do the steps above.

It worked for the first game actually. No other router to switch to and I tried multiple times with the cable. I play mostly in Bravo and I get the feeling that since the restrictions won't let BR's in any of their old servers they're bumming around Bravo Alpha and Charlie making it laggy from trying to accomodate too many people. Is it possible that the server I'm on could also be the problem? -

Oh yea! That reminds me, I remember when my computer was working, I use to go to Bravo server. I was spiking, but it wasn't really a problem. It would only go to like 300, 500, 600, then back to my normal ping, then it'll spike to 100 or so, then back to my normal ping, and it'd repeat this process for quite a while. It didn't stop, no matter how many times I restarted my computer, or unplugged the internet wire. I'm not sure why, but that's how it use to be. It's now fixed, but this could be your problem. Try going to Alpha server, test out your ping, and then go to Bravo server and test out your ping. Come back to the forums telling me what happened. If your ping only spiked in Bravo server, you could have a similar problem to what I had. But, if your ping spiked in Alpha as well, unplug anything connecting to the router, and unplug everything connected to any other computer part, not just the computer case. So, pretty much unplug everything that came with your computer, including the equipment that is used to make the computer work properly. But, only do this if you are spiking in all of the servers. Test out Alpha server, Bravo Server, and the UK server before the unplugging begins.
Remember to tell me if you spiked only in Bravo, and didn't spike in Alpha. If that is true, just don't play on Bravo server too much. -

Spiked in all tried unplugging twice and nothing. Not a single server will let me fall below 160 -

Let's solve this problem ourselves, shall we? I am assuming it's a problem with the fan in your computer case, or it could be your wireless router overheating. When computer equipment overheats, it causes the computer to take a while to respond to things, which can also cause lag, which can result in ping problems. Try placing a fan infront of your router to cool it off, or, if it's extremely hot, unplug everything that is connected to it, put it in a freezer or in the refrigerator to let it cool off, then, plug everything that was connected to it before, and try it again.
If this still doesn't solve the problem, it can be a problem with your IP address. Someone could be using it, and inorder to prevent this, follow these steps:
Start>Click Network Connections>Right click on your current internet connection>Click Repair>And Click Ok
This will allow you to repair any problems with your internet or network connection, and can also remove any addresses using your IP address. If this problem still isn't solved, give me some more details you may have, and we can fix this problem.
