If a softball sized black hole were created on the surface of the Earth, what would be the process of events?
If it truly acts as a black hole, then anything that ends up within its event horizon is not going to be able to get back out. It would fall to the centre of the earth, sucking up everything that it touches, without expanding significantly (since the total mass of the earth would be much smaller than the initial mass of the black hole, according to RobotRollCall's calculation). Eventually it is just going to sit at the centre of the earth, sucking the entire earth into it, since the earth's crust would not be able to mechanically support itself as an empty sphere once all of the liquid in the centre had gone. The remaining black hole would then probably fall into a closer orbit to the sun, since it would have the same angular velocity as earth to begin with, but a much higher mass.
