Whats your Operating System and Antivirus programm?
Ensure, that you got the latest Graphic and Directx drivers installed and that your Windows Updates are up to date.
Try to reinstall your game.
Uninstall it completly by using something like Ccleaner.
Download the Setup then again from the websites Mirrors or the Alternative Download Mirrors. If these Mirrors dont work for you, try it with these Mirrors:

Ensure, that Crossfire.exe, Gameguard.mon and Gameguard.des files got full access through your firewall and turn your Antivirus program off for the Installation.
(If its still not runing after the Setup, add a Exception for Crossfire in your Antivirus program, that it wont get blocked in any way.)
If you got Windows Vista / Windows 7, run the Setup and the Gamestart as Administrator.

If these steps dont help, post a Screenshot of the Error please and/or feel free to contact the Support.

Do you know the lateral banner when you are choosing a server? That's what you're supposed to be downloading.
