Thoughts..

I'm going to simply go through some thoughts and opinions over the leagues [ESL and WOGL] also the Competitive scene in general.

As many of you may know there isn't that many top teams out there. Most of the teams are a mediocre tier. The mediocre tier teams don't stay around much especially more then 3-5 weeks. Sometimes they're lucky to make it that far. It's a sad site in the Cross Fire Competitive scene.

I've been around the game for a while now, back around when Momentum was in the autumn assault. I've saw many teams come and go, but nothing like what I'm seeing now. Most of you know why teams fall apart, some teams fall apart for a good reason, some teams fall apart for no reason, and then you have teams that fall apart just to fall apart.

The amount of trolling the NA CF side has is pretty sad. It's not going to get better I can tell; simply because US (the community) isn't going to put forth the effort to try and do it. There has been many threads about this situation none of them will solve much of anything. If we could clean the community up to a bit better then what it is now, I think NA CF would grow more, not extremely, but better then what the game is going through for the competitive side right now.

Some things we can stop or limit to make it a better community:

- Less trolling or no trolling. The community stays on the same subject for a long time, people mess up, teams get slaughtered, not everyone is the best at this game. We run people and teams off and some of the top teams wonder why we have no better teams to play then what they have now.

- More teams. On this I can't force ANYONE to stay in a team. Teams die left and right, because we have team hoppers who think its funny to watch a team die, then remake 2-3 days later. If you lose a scrim, league match, or casted match there is no reason to kill the team because of a loss. Why do you think the good teams right now are good? They've lost scrims, casted matches, and league matches, they take the loss and move on.

- Maturity. The Maturity falls in with the trolling in a way. The average age for the competitive side is 16-17 years old. You have young kids that play the game between 11-13, and they are more mature then some of the older folks. The average age maturity wise for the competitive part is 12-14. Yes it's online, we all know. Being immature can be looked at in two ways. There is a good immaturity when you're simply cracking jokes in vent or some type of communication (EXCEPT TYPING). I think we all could grow up a age or two and be young ladies and gentlemen we are.

- Respect. There is simply no respect for any one or anything in CF. Not just the competitive side, it's CF all together. Of course no one is perfect and we all disrespect someone every now and then and you can say goofing off, but it's still disrespect. Most of the admins for leagues or in game need the most respect especially if you want to keep the leagues and more game additions coming, show some more respect to the community.

Teams don't need to die because they lose a match or they lose a league and don't make it far. My team died a while ago for WOGL, wish it wouldn't have, but it's not my choice. If you lose a player or two maybe more, just go out and look around see if you can find another player or more, finding a player is easier then finding a team now days since there is so many teams dieing.

I can't really put this in a way to make anyone happy, but WOGL and ESL are doing great jobs for the CF Competitive community, it's really nice to see them do this, with the lack of teams around these days and the teams dieing mid season causing it to be more difficult it's hard for either league to be as successful as planned. Sometimes staff has a lot to do with it as well. Another thing for the ESL part, the site is really hard to find what you need. The site needs to be less complicated.

I hope you guys actually read what I wrote and consider some of those things.

Thanks to all the leagues, admins, and the community itself for help to improve the competitive scene.

Have a nice day!

EDIT: In no way am I saying I have never done any of those, because 99.9% of us have. I just think we should cut it out a bit.

  • What a well thought out post. Thats nice to see in here. As far as the ESL site goes, I agree. It is a little more complicated than it needs to be. After being in the league for a little while it does get easier but sure would be nice to be more simple.

I know it seems like I focused on ESL on the last few sentences, It's just I was in a rush I had my drive around like 3 minutes so I hurried and got it done. :)

    Thanks for your thoughts.
  • No worries, no offense was taken. I do allow open criticism and I agree with you. The site is a bit overly complicated.

    agreed

good thought out post we need more people to speck up in other words.. or things just wont get done.
  • Very nice read. I agree with all of it. I demand a sticky on this for a good reminder. :)
  • Teams die because the players don't enjoy playing with each other, not because of trolling or losing.
  • Teams generally have massive expectations, they expect to win a league, they expect to win scrims, they expect to have the best players. Once something doesn't go their way, it hurts the chemistry of the players. I agree with doop's statement, losing doesn't make a team disband. When a team loses, their expectations lower, and they just simply don't want to play with their team mates.

I agree with most of your post though, it's very well thought out. As for the ESL Website, we know it's complicated, we didn't design it. With all of those games to deal with, it's kind of hard to maneuver.

Thanks for giving your two cents, you don't see people giving intelligent opinions very often anymore.
  • I think thats a over statment as far as the community being bad.

"Respect. There is simply no respect for any one or anything in CF. Not just the competitive side, it's CF all together. I think deep down, every CF player is a player that just wants to have fun. Every team, every individual has their positives and negitives when regarding character. This is the case in real life as well.

The only difference is, that in real life, people, for the most part, are unwilling to say some things because they don't want their rep or their face broken.

Too lazy to quote so dont harass me about it.
  • Good read, i believe their are a lot of respectfull people in teams, however, their is always the one or two players in the team that trash non-stop. A lot of people are respectful, and a lot of people aren't. I've known quite a few players to have left teams because they lost a scrim. It's so childish. I think maturity isthebiggest part of it, so many people lack this crucial quality.
  • Half the time people are joking, learn to have a sense of humour, its the internet.

  • Meh..............I think it comes down to leaders aswell. Pick your players wisely and tell them to shut up/cop on when they need it. I've led two pretty successful pug-teams for both seasons of Wogl-Eu and the strange thing is I've been the youngest player in both at 18 years. All the players I've picked up are around 18-22, and I actually know about them. If you're gonna be a moron, you're not getting in [sorry ezbitz <3].

On top of that, you have to know when to tell them to cop on. If they can't take critisism they shouldnt be in the team. If you're going to be complaining all the time and trolling the other team for no reason then byebye. If you're in my team you're doing what I ask. If you have information or think that adjusting the strat would be better, I don't have a problem but for example, if I ask you to rotate and just push up and die - i'll start the shouting.

Bassically what i'm trying to say is, to make a team last you need to have your core players and friends that will stick with you. I've been with the same people in most of my teams, and I know if they think i'm doing something wrong they'll point it out. No fuss, no screaming, but just a good xfire chat which i'll appreciate. Of course you always want to strengthen you're team as much as possible, some of these pick ups might be more.............aggressive but as a team leader its your responsibilty to run your team. I think you can see how many teams have a strong leader by looking at the teams that have been playing in Competitive-Europe for more than 6 months. Off the top of my head, I can only think of 4 teams which is rather pathethic.

I agree on the most part.

Thanks Rust, you expelled the secret lol J/K >:D.

When I took the leadership of Lolwhat? i kicked all those whom i don't know and kept those who i know, my theory says "to build a good team in CF, you need to obtain 3 things : patience, good friendships, respect other teams".

For me, those are the most important keys to build a good team, other than that, I care the less.

    Agreed ^
  • teams fall apart because the players in cf or in any other free to play fps dont know what the word commitment means

I think in omni we've now recycled 13 players that decided to stop showing up to practices for weeks... the only option we had was to recruit outside of game because I simply didnt trust anyone in this community... I messaged about 6 cs players I had played with before and my leader gave a shout to his old 1.6 team of 8 years and picked up 3 of them

I think our WCG team consists of only 2 known cf players now, the other being a relatively young cf player. The rest of our team is from counter strike or combat arms.

ill probably never again team with anyone who hasn't at least won something or showed a healthy commitment to playing this game
  • The problem with this community is that most people think that trash talking is "Trolling"...
Honestly, there arn't even THAT many true trolls in this community, it's just what people think.

Trash talking is perfectly fine, and there will remain trash talking in EVERY FPS GAME you will EVER play.
