Massive FPS drop

Just yesterday i was playing perfectly fine, when i signed in crossfire today i am suddenly getting 20 fps in a 3 people room. Whereas I'm normally suppose to get about 125 or so.
My graphic card is Nvidia 9600 GTS. I really don't know what to say, I'm running cod4 on high... i'm running fallout 3 on medium high, yet i'm lagging

  • I am having that too lately...my fps is usually 50 and it goes to 5-10 for the first 5 rounds of the game. Then it comes back to normal. Does yours do that too?

Dude, no, just no... if i don't lagg in a massive city in fallout 3 or any map in cod4, why would metro lagg? it's a universal problem for me that applies to crossfire in every map, every way, with any number of players.

PS: i tried lowering the graphics settings too, no effect whatsoever.
  • Try to update the graphics drives to the newest
  • I'm having a similar issue, maybe a memory leak?
On some games, mostly Eagle Eye and The Mine S&D, my FPS drops rapidly at some points through the game. Even in the first round in Eagle Eye I can look at the skybox, get 250fps, then next round look in the same place, same amount of people and get 50fps.
I've got an ATI Radeon HD 4650 1gb O/C'd to 700Mhz. I can run games like Left4Dead on max settings with 60fps, and even Grand Theft Auto IV on medium settings with around 40fps.
  • weird my fps drops also on Blackwidow and Desertstorm, probably just cause its a bigger map then most.
  • I had this, too

I thought it was because I changed my soundcard from onboard nvidia to SoundBlaster Audigy SE.. (my onboard sound had no footsteps/breath/or gunshot sounds)

Until tonight when I defragged my Hard Drive.

Either they (CrossFire Server People) fixed something or de-fragmenting my hard drive did the trick. Honestly I can't understand why, but I no longer experience this problem.

    TIPS FOR CROSS FIRE USERS:
First & Foremost -> Be sure to have the latest graphics card drivers for your video card that you can get from either the manufacturer or chipset designer (ATi,nVidia, or Intel).

If you can, lookup drivers for your sound card as well. This is usually more tricky -> go with either the manufacture of the mainboard (giga-byte, asus, etc) or manufacture+model of PC (dell, HP, Gateway, etc).

After that, scan your hard drive for file system errors & then defrag your hard drive.

    Good Luck.
  • i actually have the same problem.

i found out it's mainly the heat issue. pudgypaw took my rig and submerged it in oil before, as an experiment for another cooling solution. the rig has long been taken out of the oil due to its inefficiency, but it seems that the oil was still clinging to my video card. after wiping it with cotton ball and cleaning out the socket, my FPS jumped from 20~40 up to 80~130.

if you find nothing wrong with software or hardware, it's the heat or whatever contributes to that problem.

    hope that helps.
