File was changed or Forged!!!

Oddly enough, this is one of the more illusive bugs that for some reason just randomly pops up.
As stated by many other users, the steps in order to attempt to rectify this situation are as such (try them in order)
1) Try booting CF
2) Reboot and try booting CF
3) uninstall CF
4) Reboot then reinstall CF and try booting CF
5) Uninstall and delete all remaining files (in my documents and program files)
6) reinstall again and try booting CF
7) uninstall and reinstall in a different file location, then try booting CF
8) Uninstall and remove all antivirus then reinstall and try booting CF (re-Install antivirus right after this step weather CF works or not)
9) Google an older version of CF (This is not official, nor an official fix, so i do not have a link, but i have had success with this) and let it patch, then trying booting CF
If you have got to step 9 and are still having problems, the next step may be either registry fixes, or a fresh install of XP. However usually by step 9 99% of the problems are fixed.
If your still having trouble, i will ask the rest of the cf staff for solutions they have used. -
As Del pretty much stated this bug is relatively random.
The bug is MOSTLY caused by install and download errors. And CAN be caused by using 3rd party programs in conjunction with CF (yes this includes hacks).
Follow the common solutions and also Delaco's list in his post above this. They should solve 99.9% of the problems when encountering this error. -
and yall forgot one other way
just simply do a disk clean up or a free up disk space dependent on your OS
ummm it doesnt make any logical sense why you would need to do a disk cleanup or need to free up disk space in order to rectify the issue at hand here " File was changed or Forged" error.
A disk cleanup /free disk space is only needed when your running low on HDD space and its a solution by MS for making an easy to understand user interface to safely remove files and shortcuts which arent required ie Temp internet files , cookies !

I recently installed CF about 3 weeks ago but didnt get the chance to run it until 2n. I launched CF and it autoupdated and then I recieved the File was changed or Forged error.
I doubt its a random error but its an error with the installation and miscompatability with game and patch versions !
then again Im not a coder and im making allegations way beyond my mental capacity ^.^ -
try this... to encounter forged files....
1)do a disk clean up
2)copy CF folder to C:/ or / not the same folder as the main
3)try run CF from main CF folder if still forged go run CF from copied folder
4)if still the same reboot once
5)still forged ??? go back step 3
note this only works for me but dont know other... -

It doesn't matter if it's a disk clean up. It's one of the easiest and safest ways to fix this problem rather than un installing crossfire or installing some windows crap..your right and wrong it doesnt make logicaql since but guess what i have to do after every patch and guess how long it takes me to get back on playing about 2mins

LCMDUSNSF is right. Every time CF gets a new patch, I get this file is forged problem.
Do a disk clean up and it'll work.
