CrossFire Not Starting Fix (for AVG antivirus users)
I noticed lots of ppl are have the same problem i was having with trying to play Crossfire. You launch Crossfire, game guard starts up, than nothing happens, I even had the problem that my computer would freeze up and I would have to manually reset it. I made sure to check or do all the things listed on common soultions thread written by [GM]Saidin found here http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?t=32, but nothing was working for me.
I found a solution for ppl using AVG antivirus. After looking long and hard to why Crossfire stopped working i discovered that when i uninstalled my virus protection program AVG it worked fine. For those of you who have AVG 9.0 know you can't just turn it off, and if you can i didn't know how, when you want to play Crossfire so that was not an option for me.
So here is the fix.
1. Go the the overveiw screen of the AVG program.
2. Double click the "Resident Shield"
3. Click the "Manage Exceptions" tab on the bottom left of that page.
4. Click "Resident Shield Directory Excludes"
5. Click "Add Path"
6. Manually add the following paths: (you might not need to add them all for CrossFire to work, but i didn't test excatlly which one was being blocked. Particularly the last 1 might not be necessary, but this is what i did and CrossFire now works for me)
A. C:\Program Files\Z8Games\CrossFire\GameGuard\
B. C:\Program Files\Z8Games\CrossFire\backup\
C. C:\Program Files\Z8Games\CrossFire\rez\
D. C:\Program Files\Z8Games\CrossFire\
E. C:\Documents and settings\*here you add whatever you named your primary document folder*\my d documents\CrossFire\
7. Click apply and ok.
You can now play CrossFire and use AVG antivirus hope this helps alot of ppl.
On a last note before I did the above fix I downloaded http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html
It found and corrected lots of registry errors, defragmented my hard drives, defragmented my game files, optimized my system, and has "SmartRam" which monitors and keeps as much ram available to you at all times. Advanced System Care Free has many other features also so i suggest you download it and give it a try, but thats up to you, I personally love it.
All of these issues were a big surprise to me due to the fact i have a CPU less than a month old.
