Maturity – a helpful guide for anyone seeking a job on the internet
Before I start with this thread, I just want to tell you that it’s not necessarily for the moderating job at Z8Games, but it can be applied to honestly any job on the internet, whether it being a graphics designer, a coder, a moderator, an administrator, or even something as small as a known reporter [people who’s reports are bumped to the top of the list because they are trusted]. These small series of guides are to help others who want to get a job on the internet. Some people may not agree that an online job is the best way, but I personally think that it’s not impossible to balance a good lifestyle [yes, with friends] and an internet job. Internet jobs aren’t what you should base your life around. Don’t make that crucial mistake. Basing your life on the internet either leads to one of two things, you quitting life, or you quitting your internet job.
I am a known member of Z8Games [or I like to state so] and I have held numerous “jobs” on the internet, I am not going to state them all, but for those relating to moderating and administrating, I’ve been a moderator for a fansite for Cross Fire which shut down because of inactivity [there were around 30 members that were dedicated, but the number fell, and the site died]. I currently hold the position of National Electronic Sports League Administrator, and Shut Up and Frag gaming community moderator. Having both jobs aren’t the hardest thing ever to do, but they do require a lot from me, but you must remember, life over virtual life. If life gets the better of you, take care of that first. I make sure to go out and do whatever with friends as often as I can. I always keep my dedications to internet jobs, but I don’t take it overboard. I take it seriously, but my life doesn’t revolve around it.
Please note that these topics can also be related to getting a regular job in real life. You can read it in any way that you wish. If you think that you do not need advice, leave this thread, it’s not for you.
Because of the recent moderator search, I’ve seen many people act, differently, and I know for a fact that acting like someone else gives a terrible impression to the person(s) who are looking for the next moderator.
Maturity
Being mature. It’s something that undoubtedly will never come overnight nor is it something that anybody will be able to develop by doing nothing and expecting something out of it. Maturity, in my opinion, is one’s way of thinking based on previous events and experiences. One’s mind may be developed to act in a way in which society calls ‘mature’. Maturity is a way of thinking in which you act professional. Remember that being a professional does not make you mature. Acting professionally can be described as acting respectful and with empathy.
Maturity doesn’t count on age
Before anything comes up, maturity does not go hand in hand with age. You can get a thirty year old man who is the most immature human being alive. It’s not a correlation. Maturity is commonly developed over time, but the rate at which it develops is not determined by how old you are. Remember, age is just a number. You can find a way to change the number of your age, for example by identity fraud, but that doesn’t mean you will be mature as a result.
Maturity and age have a strong correlation [for example, many wise people are portrayed as old people who are experienced] but young people have the ability to be mature as well. It’s not a hard idea to get into your head that the community has young members that are mature. Many of which I am close friends with.
What does being mature get me?
Maturity shows that you have the ability to know your place. It shows that you have the ability to be respectful and able to act in a way in which society can relate to. Immaturity shows nothing but your inability to listen and be professional. Please note that being immature doesn’t mean anything against you, but it means that you still have a chance to be mature.
I’m a prime example. About 3 years ago, I was what you would call a ‘troll’ on a different forum. It migrated over here for a couple months, and that is what got my bad reputation with the older members. I’ve grown since then, mentally and physically. Now, I’m somewhat known as a mature member, and I struggle to keep up that attitude every day.
Being mature is terribly hard. You have to know your limits; when to do something, and when to avoid a situation. Many Z8Games moderators exemplify this on a daily basis. We’ve all been in that situation where we just want to reply to a troll and put them in their place, but moderators are put in this position almost on an hourly basis.
I’ve talked to many moderators, and trust me; it’s not an easy job. It’s extremely hard, and they have to always be mature. It’s not their liability, it’s their job. Being mature is hard, which is why some people lose it sometimes.
What if I am not mature all of the time?
We’re all human, we all make mistakes. If you’re mature enough to admit and know what you did wrong after you are immature, that to me is you knowing what you did wrong, and it shows to me that you are extremely mature. It also shows to me that you can learn from your mistakes. People in power can be immature too, it’s not something that is unique to any one person.
WHY MATURITY?
Being mature is the thing that will ultimately distinguish you as either a child or an adult. Living in the past isn’t a way to go about things. If you are immature, leave it in the past. For example, if you want to get moderator for Z8Games, don’t be discouraged if you were immature in the past. Saidin has stated many times, they’re not looking for what you have done, they’re looking for what you can do, and what you will do.
Maturity isn’t something that you should be discouraged if you don’t have. I’ve stated many times that being immature isn’t the end. You can still show maturity. The approximate age of players playing this game is around the ages of 15 to 22. Around this age, many people go from immaturity to maturity. Being mature is something that will come if you continually show maturity [see consistency in the guides section]. It becomes a natural trait once you get used to it.
Maturity is the most crucial trait, in my opinion, if you are seeking any job at all. Employers and bosses don’t want immature kids who will not listen to orders, they want mature professionals who are willing to help.

Hi, just a suggestion. Although these kinds of threads do hold their own irreplaceable value. You really need to cut down on the content size because it really is intimidating. I didn't even read one word, but I can guess it's similar to the other thread. Simplicity is good way to keep the attention of your reader.Sniiper_dude wrote: »Din't read cause of the length yet but I have a feeling it needs a sticky
Incredibly stupid to say so only based on content length.
Anytime, my brother.
