Engy's Guide to the Steyr AUG A1

The AUG is possibly the most underrated gun in Crossfire. I wanted to make a guide to encourage more people to use it and to help those who are struggling.

The Basics

These are some basic tips that apply to other guns, as well as the AUG.
  • Always aim for the head. It's a one-shot headshot, and considering the AUG is not particularly powerful, it's even more important.
  • Burst fire or single-shot at mid-long range to retain accuracy.
  • Spraying is only ideal for close range, as the target is very large and you need to get as many bullets into the enemy as possible in the shortest amount of time.
  • Always reload behind cover (e.g. box, wall, barricade etc.). This is even more important with the AUG because it's reload time isn't great.

The Specific Stuff

The AUG is fairly different to other guns in the way to use it.
  • This gun is primarily a defensive gun, so if you are a keen rusher, I would use a different gun. However, it's fast firing rate (when not scoped in) does help to a certain extent, but your not likely to get as far as you would with, say, a G36k.
  • This is one of the few rifles with a scope, so use it wisely. It has the same scope as the SG552 (just a zoomed-in view) rather than an iron-sight. My suggestion (which could well be the most important tip here) is not to overuse it. I reccommend you only use it in situations where the enemy is a sitting duck and you have a clear view of their head. This is because the firing rate goes down when you scope in, and I find that it just feels messy. Also, never use the scope when trying to kill a moving target. They will notice you before you can even do any damage to them as its very hard to get good, clean shots in this situation.
  • Use the gun exactly like you would use an m4. It's kind of hard to explain, but headshots ar much easier to obtain with the AUG than the m4.
  • Surprisingly enough, you can burst fire at long range (w/o scope) as the recoil is very manageable, so a lot of the first few bullets hit the target. You can fire in bursts of 2-4 shots for optimum accuracy.

Other Stuff

The gun costs 45,000gp and you must be of rank sergeant 1 (the first class of the rank with three arrows)

The AUG-Camo is exactly the same as the regular version except it has 5 more rounds per clip (so it is more suited to rushing) and it has a camo skin, which I think looks pretty cool.

NB: Once you have mastered this gun (you'll know because 4 out of 5 kills will be headshots) you WILL, I repeat, you WILL be accused of using an aimbot, I guarantee you. I suggest making an anti-hackusation macro, as they can help :p. Also, be friendly to people in game (e.g. saying "nice shot" or just laughing or something I DUNNO ) because 1 or 2 people will tend to back you up when the hackusations come flooding. If you are using an aimbot, GTFO NAO.

Right, well that's it for now. I hope you learned something new today. Contructive criticism, comments and further tips welcome.

Happy AUGing :)

Ohh dear :p. You could always make another account, the rank requirement isn't that high.

    Nope uzi is
  • LMFAO!!!!! I LOve the last bit where u said:

"IF U ARE AIMBOTTING GTFO NAO!!!!" Rofl!
  • Probably should add the cons.

    - Rarely a 1 hit head shot at range
    - Less recoil more spread
    - 3 sec reload time (2.5 or 2 with camo)
    - Heavier then the M4A1 (Also more stable because of this)
    - Less recoil (compared to the M4)
    - Faster rate of fire (compared to the M4)
    - Suffers from a 70% to 80% damage reduction when shooting through wood
  • Nice guide,, All I would of said is to aim for the head ;) :P

It would have been just as good :p
  • Heh, I can tell you right now. Go ahead use an M4 or scar light on me when im using the aug. Your done son. OK heres a little more info
When you crouch and burst when not scoping its basically a instant kill
HAVE patience and discipline with this gun dont go around spraying with it.
If you play with this gun everyday for a week, your headshotting skills go off the chain.
I recommend using Type C & Neon Green scope.
Left Hand if you want to get down to business with accuracy.

How does changing to left hand help accuracy?
  • I can't seem to be able to edit the guide, the button just isn't there. I can edit my other posts though :-S
  • Another thing, if you feel you start sucking, sit back and adapt a more defensive role in the match
  • The AUG is a good countersniper gun, and it's more of a defensive weapon than an offensive weapon. If you want an offensive weapon I recommend the G36K or the SG552.
  • Crossfire has a G3? I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT! The G36K is brilliant, it's very accurate, has iron sights and fires very fast. Also it is actually quite powerful. The SG552 also is very good. Nice amount of power, good rate of fire, has a zoom function (better than AUG zoom) and has acceptable accuracy. Though it has bad recoil and is very noisy. The Micro Galil is average, though it's more of a rifle than an SMG (which btw the Galil is a rifle anyway in real life. ;) )
  • G3 power is so ghey its like 52 or sumtin, and every 1 stop dissin the SG ffs it is a awesome gun once you know how to handle it. every gun is (except micro galil haha what a pice of !@#$)
  • The micro-galil is not that bad...seriously.

The scope on the g36 isn't great because it doesn't zoom in much (if at all) and sight is kind of hindered.

As far as I'm aware the sg and aug have the same scopes.
  • When i got my Aug Camo i decided to use it and i did so good its my main gun now lol i learne how to use it by my self also lol.

isnt less recoil and faster rate of fire a "good thing"? lol

Aw dammit, I really want an aug-camo...:(
  • Good guide bud, correction though, if you played crossroad enough , you will realize one thing.

AUG is not ALWAYS 1 hit 1 kill with headshot, regardless of helmet or not. AUG's headshot have a 10 - 20% chance of doing 98 damage instead. With helmet it will be lowered to 70s or 80s.
However in majority of cases it is 1 hit 1 kill. Good guide, even though you already mentioned this in your guide, i want to emphasize one important factor....
-zooming is strictly for long range, even then, if you don't get a headshot, then don't bother zooming.
get good shooting without scope, you will find aug to be a great gun, the first 3 - 4 bullets are very accurate, furthermore the gun's firing rate will help you in all situations.
  • I hate AUG, the scope sucks. When I use it, I find it harder to kill than using it without scope.
  • Hehe, the AUG is indeed a great gun for one-shotting. The power is quite high tho, not low like you say in your post :P.

I'm using an AUG camo and yes I get hackused sometimes for aimbotting lol. I just spray for the head.

some people do better wth accuracy in different hands like me

Really good Guide , dude. :)
I always liked to use it at Crossroad. It´s really great for that Mostly Mid-Long Range focused Map. I wouldn´t use it at Egypt ´though.

I'm using an AUG camo and yes I get hackused sometimes for aimbotting lol. I just spray for the head.

I meant other guns (like sg and g36k) would probably kill quicker with body shots if every bullet hit the target.

Spraying/bursting for the head always works, so keep crosshair roughly at head level at all times.

Unfotunately, I must add a disadvantage to buying the AUG if it's going to be your only weapon. It is fairly limiting in the strategies you can use with it. It can get a bit repetitive and boring at times. I suggest buying a gun that requires you to play a different role in a match (e.g. AK47).
