My broken PC

Well, lets see if anybody can identify the problem.

I have yellow squiggly lines on my monitor (which get worse if i scroll up or down)
1. running in safe mode. Normal mode will flat out not start (this is after reinstalling a fresh windows XP).
   
2. When installing XP, there were characters missing from a lot of the text during installation and its the same with the bios (eg: pr ss a y t b t fro CD)

I assumed it was graphics related because of the random yellow lines, but after seeing the bios i wasn't too sure.

i am not an expert but i had this problem in the past...

my GPU paid the debt of nature back then...

yea, i thought that was it, i'm going to take it out and see if the onboard displays correctly.

What kind of monitor u have?
If older CRT version, try attaching new one or replacing and see if it is fixed...
Cuz if u tried graphics switch cannot be anything than that.

after i took my card out and used the onboard it displays correctly (if you can call such a small res that)

Guess i bettter get myself a new card, thanks everyone.

How warm does the card get?

on average it would hang around 40, which i believe is fine, I'm gona swap it around a bit to see if its the connection since there is no clear sign of heat damage.

No, its a few years old, so I'm going to have to get a new one.

Then put it in the oven at 200*C for ~7 minutes.
Remove the heatsink, coolingpaste and all stickers first though, they create toxic gases when heated.

No one thinks I'm serious when I suggests it
When a graphic card gets old it gets cracks in the tin solder. When you heat it in the oven the tin melts and the cracks disappear. O.o

But make sure you remove all the coolingpaste with nailpolish or something similar first. You get kinda high, but it's not good for you. (:

I remember baking my graphics card. I had forgot to remove the coolingpaste, it smelled bad, but it was trippy

Ah nothing i cant handle.....

meh, My I like my intel cpu even if it has taken Amazon 2 trys to send the the correct thing.

Performance wise (Overclocking included, since it's a big deal to me)

Intel > AMD

Nvidia > AMD

Price wise

AMD > Intel

i'm the type of person who would pay that little bit more to get that extra juice. which is why i like intel and Nvidia.

Oh by the way Megalodon, is it ok to leave the Capacitors on?

Yes it is. If youre on a budget. I didnt want to spend like £300 for a decent Intel processor.
