Good Headsets for Noisy LANs?
I posted here so I can get replies from competitive players who play at LANs.
Generally, I am looking for headsets that do well on LANs for FPS games like CrossFire. I've heard that Audio-Technica ATH-AD700s have a huge soundstage for potential pinpointing and a weak bass so nades don't cover up footsteps and such. However, living in Canada, I can't get them unless I order them online. Plus, the AD-700s are more of a audiophile headphone as opposed to being a gaming headset, meaning no integrated mic.
Currently I have my eyes on the SteelSeries Siberia V2. Pros and cons of these cons? Or other sugguestions in the same price range (<$200CAD)?

Steelseries are fine I guess.
At ESL events they use HMDCs from sennheiser but they are way out of any normal prize range. I'd rather go for Sennheiser PC350.
*Thats if you want about average noise cancelling -
I own both of those headphones you speak of. The AD-700s sound much better than the Siberia v2s. To be honest, I wouldn't even consider the Siberias if you're looking to spend that much.
You need to keep this in mind. You want noise cancelling, but you're looking at open headphones. You should be looking at closed. If I were you, I would try Sennheiser PC350s or Beyer Dynamic DT770s. I have a pair of the 770s, and they're AMAZING. -

However, in Toronto, there's only one store who sells them (Planet of Sound) and it costs $289.... And since I'm a student, I can't really afford them.
The ATH-AD700s I'll have to buy online for $159.99... And I don't know if they ship here or not.
Thanks tho -
SteelSeries 7H USB is really good for me because I play usually with full blast sound and I don't near a single thing outside my headset.
7H comes with an option of closed and open depending on what your doing.
Closed: Not able to hear outside
Open: Able to hear outside -
Only a select few people in this community have actually attended a lan, and only a finger amount go to lans on a regular basis. You want noise cancelling headphones depending on how big the lans you attend are. I attended lanapalooza one summer that was in a hockey arena with 300+ people and was forced to use my backup headset which was the Steelseries 3H's; lets just say It wasn't a pleasurable experience simply because the headset is of poor quality.
Either go for studio quality headphones or a very top of the line gaming headset. Noise cancelling will benefit greatly even if the lan's noise level surpasses the barrier of your headphones which will be the case most likely.

I've researched Beyerdyanmic DT770s, and believe me, I want them xD

I purchased my Beyer Dynamics for $110USD. Sometimes you need to shop around online. If you really want a steal, look on Ebay. Most sellers will ship Worldwide. (Same goes for the AD700s, you can get a pair shipped via ebay.) -

And you're right! I found the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700s for ~$85USD + ~$40shipping ($125USD in total) on Adorama. I'm gonna ask my friends if their parents can order them for me
P.S. I'm obsessed with the ATH-AD700s cuz of their (apparently) enournous soundstage xD -
The only good gaming oriented "headset" is the senn PC360 and mayB that MX300 or whatever its called(DT770+boom).
But since you want the best noise cancelling, I'd suggest a sennheiser HME(aviation headets). For the best PRice/performance, without a doubt: ATH-AD700s with ZM-1, I got mines from JR for like 70 bucks, shipping to canada was about 30-40$. But the advantage of those phones(the soundstage) are contered by the fact that it's the airiest and most laidback headphones ever, meaning you'll won't have any isolation at all, It's great for home use though.
Just know this, open cans produce better soundstage than closed cans, but they don't have as great sound isolation if any at all. To be quite honest, soundstage dosn't make that big of a difference for CF and CS since depth of sound is not accurate. So for LANs: Closed is better. At home, open is better.
You can also try using IEM(in-ear monitors), which is what I do now and it's really great. I get great sound isolation, audio cues, confort and it dosn't even feel like they're there.
Headphones I suggest:
AD700
DT880
HD555/595
Sennheiser HME(any)
PC360
DT770/MX300/Zowie Hammer(it's the same headset BTW if you ddnt know)
Sennheiser HD600+
D2000s
It really shows that this competetive community is still young, we need to mature up if we wanna go to WCG. I'm sure there are still people here that think high DPI is better and laser is better than optical.
