Map Opinions?

Ceyhan
DesertStorm
Downtown
EagleEyes
Factory
Mexico
Port
Santoria
Sub Base
The Mine

Above are the current SND maps available for our version of Cross Fire. Many people make biased or inexperienced opinions towards which maps are competitive, and which are not. Regardless of opinions; most maps can be played competitively from what I have seen and experienced over the past year. Please take some time to build a list of maps that fall into these categories; top, best, worst, competitive, non-competitive, all, none, etc. Take some time to state your opinions and get into details. (Make sure you look at it from a different stand point then just what you think, try and see the maps from different perspectives and what they have to offer.)

  • Teams will play whatever map an organization tells them to play, but even so there are maps that are better than others. I would not mind allowing all twelve maps for any event or season, since it does promote teams to strategize and know about each map. Honestly it could go either way, since most of the maps are pretty equal.

The best maps that I know of are; BlackWidow, Ceyhan, Factory, Port, and Sub Base. These maps have become the most popular ever since WOGL began laying down the its standard of competition. (Factory has some sort of off-set radar glitch, seems to be a recent bug.) Most of the other maps are good, such as; DesertStorm, Downtown, EagleEyes, Mexico, Santoria, and The Mine. They do not have inherent flaws, other then not being played as often. They could be used in my opinion. The only bad map I have experienced is Castle, possibly one of the worst maps ever created. The spawn and bomb site placements are not as good as they should be, and the map structure becomes a problem because of those two issues.

In my opinion, it all depends on the event. Then the choice is up to the admins discretion.
  • leave out downtown and castle for sure. i dont think the mine and sanitoria should be played either but w.e

Yeah, but why would you leave out those maps? I do not see anything wrong with Santoria, The Mine, or Downtown. Downtown has been fixed, and the build is pretty nice. Santoria has a darker or dusk theme, it does not make it worse then any other map. The Mine has...a deep, dark well? I do not see why it should be removed.
  • All the maps are fine

BlackWidow- It's bw not much else to say
Castle- Kinda a coin flip map, but you still have to play both sides
Ceyhan- a nice slow paced map
DesertStorm- nothing to bad except for overly long rotates
Downtown- they patched the wall spamming
EagleEyes- learned to love this map practicing for WEM, it's definitely competitive.
Factory- one of our versions favorites
Mexico- an easy map to mess up on GR side even though you have the adv
Port- competitive staple, almost everybody likes this map
Santoria- is alot more complex tactically than people notice, just under played currently
Sub Base- no wallbang guns make it more interesting
The Mine- plays out kind of weird due to middle, overall still a good map

Castle is really the only map with issues, even then it just comes down to controlling the elevated hallway and a site.

they are just maps you rarely see practiced. i guess in a league its fine though since you would have time to practice thoes maps.
  • Allowing all maps gives alot more choice for teams in play-offs. Even in regular season, the maps chosen for each week is usually from the "common" map pool.
Only map that has an argument for being excluded is Castle, since BL can reach A site (or is it B site?) before GR can. Even then, if a team chooses to practice Castle and make it one of their strong-points, why not let them?
  • castle is the most fun to watch. mexico is frustrating to play but i say

    use all maps.
  • The only map that i think should be excluded is castle due to it having unbalanced spawn points.

Also, just throwing this in here i think that for playoffs map exclusions should be brought back.
  • No castle because it's terribly unbalanced, for the reasons you already gave.
    The rest are fine.
  • All these maps should be made playable.

They all have their ups & downs some more then others, but they all take their skills, and knowledge of the map to win it.
  • downtown and castle are both idiotic maps to me and they should be erased from the earth lol. but i like the rest :D

castle sucks, downtown isn't a bad map
  • Here's something to think about:

Maps can be unbalanced, that is true. But does that make the actual MATCH unbalanced? Both teams get the chance to play both sides. Doesn't that make the chance to take advantage of that side pretty even? It's up to the teams to be prepared. So in a way, are Leagues making taking some maps out because the teams can't handle the heavy one-sided maps? Is it REALLY the maps or the lack of preparation of the teams?

"Sub-Base is heavily T-sided" --- Then both teams should prepare to be able to take their rounds on T side.

In this case, all the maps are fine. Unbalanced or not. Do we make allowances for some maps because they are simply easier on both teams? Just a thought.
  • Castle is just straight up bad. it doesnt matter that both teams play both sides. it just ends up being a race to a-site/ pub. no one enjoys competing on that map, whether is balanced or not. i wouldnt miss DT either, but its not bad.

I think the competitive maps are blackwidow, ceyhan, mexico, port, ceyhan, and factory. I choose these because they seem to have more strats, nade spots, and require more gamesense and teamwork.
