Kevo's Guide to Headshots

Hello, my name is Kevo. This is my first guide, it is on headshots, how to get them, improving your abilities to get them, and some tips on what guns you should use to get them. Also, I do not consider myself a pro in any way but I usually get ace (which isn't much in pubs) and I do have some basic knowledge that I want to share with the community.

Introduction

Why should I aim for the head while I can just spray at the body? The answer is simple, what is a faster kill, a well aimed shot at the head, or a spray at the chest? If you master headshots you'll find yourself out-tapping sprayers everyday and being ace every game you play. Read on!

Equipment

Any gun can get a headshot, most guns fire accurately if you single-shot, even guns like the M60 or RPK, so I recommend any gun you're good with. I personally like the m4, it's accurate and just feels nice to headshot with. Many people say this gun is the master of headshots :). So just pick up your favorite gun and you're good to go. Also keep in mind there are guns out there that do not kill with a headshot, like the uzi, so avoid those.

For your crosshair, it's really your choice. But I think the best one for headshots is C. It has a round shape and it's tiny, perfect for single shotting. I must say however that it is not effective at spraying/aiming at the chest, it hardly expands at all and you are given the false illusion that you have no recoil, finding that none of your shots are hitting. A is the best for bodyshots, but that's not what we're going for! So I recommend C, and I personally like green.

And now the most important, your sensitivity. You must be extremely comfortable with your sensitivity, being able to snap to someone's head as they jump out a corner, keep your crosshairs on them, etc. Here's a little test I made up to see if your sensitivity is too low or high:

1. Is your mouse frequently being dragged off the mouse pad for you to turn? Your sensitivity is too low.
2. Does your hand/arm/shoulder feel tense? Your sensitivity is too high, your muscles are trying to compensate for the high sensitivity and that's why they are tense.

Both of these are extremes and you must find a middle ground in order to have perfect control. A good test is to snap your crosshair in one smooth motion to one spot on the map, and shoot. See how close you got. Did you overshoot? Try lowering your sensitivity. Did you undershoot? Try increasing your sensitivity. Also try strafing left and right while trying to keep your crosshair at one specific point. The smaller the better.

How do I get Headshots?

Once you have your sensitivity mastered, it is simple. First, let's go over some tips.

Keep your crosshair at head level as you move around
This makes sure if you are jumped by anyone you are able to click and it will be a headshot, as simple as that.

As you turn corners, EXPECT people to be there
Put your crosshair where you know their head is going to be and do a quick burst if they are there.

Aim for the head close quarters, and drag your mouse down
Figure out the recoil of your gun, how much to drag it down, in what direction to drag it, etc. Essentially snap your crosshair to their head and start spraying, and drag it down as you spray, if you missed of course.

Aim for the head mid-range, burst/tap
I like quick 1-3 second bursts, and tapping works well too, if you have the control to do it.

At longer ranges, try and aim high, tap very carefully
Look at your crosshair, notice how it gets smaller when you are completely still? This is the ideal position to shoot from, but then you must remember that you are an easy target completely still, so strafe to one side, stop, shoot while you are still, and start strafing to the other side, repeat. Only shoot when you get a hitmarker, it's useless to shoot otherwises. A useful tip for people not used to their sensitivities that much yet is to keep your crosshair at head/chest level and use A and D to move it diagonally.

Take your time to aim
Can't stress this enough, if you rush your aiming, you will probably MISS.

Practice!
There's no real secret to headshots other than AIMING FOR THE HEAD. Try going into a ship, train, or egypt and ONLY aiming for headshots. It may be hard at first but you'll find yourself slowly getting better at it.

Any feedback would be nice :)
