permanent ban? when is it issued?
i reported some players a while ago. a few of them don´t have the honorable player badge anymore, which means that theres a chance they have been banned for 7days because of my or other players reports.
will their next ban be a permanent ban or is there another 7 day ban? why not ban them permanently when they are blatantly cheating?

Manually issued bans are always permanent for cheating.
The automatic issues 7 day bans on the first go, but people don't seem to realize how this works in practice;
Guy X cheats. Caught, banned 7 days.
Guy X comes back after a week and cheats again. Instantly another 7 day ban if not more.
Guy X comes back yet again and cheats. Instantly banned again.
This doesn't differ much from a permanent ban other than it lets people shape up and clean their PCs in case the ban stems from a cheat for a different game, or other software issues.
The small time-lapse of actual gametime of a few minutes between bans is a small price to pay for the benefit of bans being issued automatically without administrative involvement, which makes it so much more efficient and removes the human element (did that guy really hear that ghost or did he cheat?) which so often is an excuse for being banned. -

Well mods claim report bans are permanent and there is no other option from those reports, so your reports did nothing as all they did was lose the ribbon.
The only explanation there is that they was auto banned by the system and lost the ribbons and because they already got auto banned then your reports are now useless and they won't get permanently banned now because the auto ban got them first.will their next ban be a permanent ban or is there another 7 day ban?
I honestly don't know but the staff say it escalates after each ban.why not ban them permanently when they are blatantly cheating?
Saidin is hoping that temp bans change the hackers behaviour and they stop hacking that was the point to these bans I think he said "behaviour modification", but yea why not just close the accounts and ban them:p -
thanks guys for the replies. obviously its a difficult task to hand out bans and that whole process overall is tricky. however i am a bit disappointed that this one guy didn´t get banned manually, for his cheating was utterly blatant. i think he can well live without his ribbon..

I had same problem back in october/november last year i reported around 15 players. All of them multikilling mutants in MM which anybody who plays MM will know is impossible to kill 7 mutants in a matter of seconds. All but one has no honourable ribbon and only a couple were not still active.
So it appears like what dissident says once automatic ban is issued the reports seem to ignored or due to the sytem not working properly lost. I am hoping that this now has been or will be rectified. A few days ago i reported 5 blatant hackers in egypt and mm. As yet all of them are active and have honourable ribbons so i will keep tickets open and often check to see A)if they lose ribbon
if after a week they are active again.
I really am hoping they get permanent bans. Then it will give me some more faith in the system and i will feel more obliged to give my time reporting these idiots when i know they will be banned permanently.
EDIT: good to know that something will be updated in patch in relation to auto bans.Think personally 2 or maximum 3 strikes policy should be enough warning to people -

That is too idealistic. I guess most hackers would realize that the cost is just 7 days for not playing it with that account. Unless they don't think hacking is shame, there is no way they should humiliate themselves by using an account that is "dishonored". If they think hacking is a life, the hope they can change would never happen.
Our hope is only to educate the youth:"be responsible for your behavior, once a cheater, always a cheater". -
if u still wanna do it that way, y not just 1 7 day ban, then the next perm. hes just gonna keep hacking he hes anot stopedManually issued bans are always permanent for cheating.

Also, multiple auto-banning can result in increased time banned. This will also be worked on and improved in the upcoming patch.
Great, it sounds like most I suggested in suggestion thread have already happened.
But how could we explain the upgoing tendency of hacker in this week.
Still, I will kick all players on the hacker side if a vote kick is failed by something like 7:8, or even no one start a vote, if I am room host. -

Seems we think alike.
I will give fair warning though if I'm host I will tell the other team to start a vote kick to rid
of us of the hacker. Then if no vote is started or it fails horribly like you said, I will then
kick the offending team except the vote starter (if there is one). I let them have the kick
from the host for being accomplices to the cheater/hacker and have no qualms about it.
My thinking is that if the players would like to play this game with me then they will play
fair in my room, if not then they get some (behavioral modification)
Then often I will recieve pm's asking why did you Kick me. LOL. hmmmm. I ask them if they
understand English. Answer is usually yes, I'll say why did you not heed my warnings to kick
the hacker? It's usally some answer like i didn't see it or I didn't know there was a hacker
on my team.... I'll say ok. Now you know! You have someone with 125/3 K2D in a team
round and you have 25/20 and on the same team... and you didn't see that, ahmmm ok...
Anyhow, this is my first post here and I've been playing the game and reading the forums
quite a while now.
Nice to see someone else trying to make it an even playing field also!
Have a nice day! -

Because there is high anticipation for a patch, there's more people playing, maybe a new public was released.
There's a lot of reasons that can explain the ups and downs of hacking. We're never far behind and sometimes even ahead.
So yes, there might be upwards tendency right now, but then again we're issuing more bans this week than we did last week. And we're stepping up searches for any illusive hack that still needs to get reported and blocked by xtrap or the auto systems. etc. etc. etc.
