Spectating

It would be cool if other players could spectate in clanwars. i would like to watch some other matches. if not, please post replays.

Replays are posted willy nilly in the different threads.

Spectating is too easily abused to be allowed at the moment.

I can imagine some jerk spectating bl and calling where they are through ventrilo or vice-versa. There's no work-around for it, perhaps if there was an option for the creater of a room to choose whether or not spectating can be allowed.

There would be an easy as hell way to get passed this... In clan wars to spectate you can only spectate 1 side. If your team is playing you can only spectate your team. If you can only view 1 team then I don't see the problem.
Spectating is in 1st person, you can't use it to tell where the other team players are.

The work around is very simple.


The game that spectators watch would have a 5 minute delay.


Its simple to come up with, but I imagine much more difficult to implement.

This is the crux of the spectator mode problem. Not that we don't want it in, just that it's proving more difficult to implement.

We definitely want to put something like spectator mode in the game. Or improve the replay system, in fact there are lots of things that are on the list to improve. These tournaments, and their success will also help get those things improved faster.

At this point we're taking it one thing at a time. Lets get through some of the next updates and get the tournament finished and then we'll look to improve the process and make the next one have even more features and teams and fun things to be involved in.

i have no idea how a spec system would work in this game, but if you want to see a fairly effective one for a free game i suggest you get wolfenstein: et and go to gamestv.org and watch a et match. today was a decent match of tag vs edit, you can request replays and a server will be made for you to watch the replay.

i dont know much about how it works but anything similar would be awsome.

i cant recall anycases of people using specating as a means of giving one team an advantage. usually there is a 5+ min delay.

also cf needs shoutcasting. listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeWOKBOEpj4&feature=related gets a smile on my face everytime

its still sad that cf doesnt have some basic things which games that are more then 6 years old have... like a half decent netcode. yeah i went there.

really? have u eveer spectated someone? ever tried pressing f1 maybe? every had 2 computers running CF at same time (with diff account ofcourse)? ever pressed space?

Anyway, people have tried letting others watch the match before via xfire broadcasts, and people were on vent telling the players where everyone is at. -___-


And yeah, all the technical stuff kinda sucks.

There could be like, where if a spectator wants to join in, both teams have to agree, like f11, or f12.

yeah, u should be able to spectate but only cln members can spectate, because if im friends with some1 from clover and im from another clan i can maybe choose to spectate the other team and call him from my cell and tell him where they are, so i dont think it will happen unless it's clan spectating with your clan members only and only view your clan...
