IV'E BEEN WANDERING AROUND THE ****ING TECHNICAL PROBLEM TREAD FOR THE WHOLE ****ING DAY AND I JUST CANT BELIEVE THAT THERE'S NO ****ING SOLUTION FOR MY PROBLEM AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM!
Admins:La la la la la! Crossfire wont start? why? have you tried to reinstall it?
Answer: YES FOR **** SAKE OVER 9000 TIMES!

- Second, try deleting ALL the files of CROSSFIRE & X-FIRE then try installing it again, if it doesn't work, you may try doing it on another computer account.

I think that's the problem (one guy even posted a video...). There is NO error message. The game launcher appears, you click start the game, HGW loads then... nothing. Even after 10 mins, no X-Trap error window, no CF-related process still running. NOTHING. It started happening just after the Halloween patch, more than a month ago if I'm correct.
As for the common sense needed to make a game work, you should have kept that for you.
To make CF work, you need to beat the crap out of common sense.
How is CF related to internet explorer ?
How is any PC game related to internet explorer in such a way that downgrading from IE 8 to IE 6 makes it work ?

I had the same problem and I uninstalled/installed CF several times, tried different Anti-virus, tried deactivating the one I'm using, tried deactivating my firewall, uninstalled/reinstalled internet explorer 8, cleaned my computer, when nothing worked I even formated it. I spent countless hours reading "here's the solution" threads, and as many hours trying their useless methods, nothing worked. And you dare use the word lazy ?
I've played A LOT of games, installing/uninstalling them. Either bought game, free game, online F2P games, or even pirated games. I downloaded/installed numerous patchs for all those games, even suspicious cracks for the pirated ones and I had very few problems (mostly the games temporarily not working). I also tampered with a lot of games to customize them, even doing things not intended.
In total, I had less problems with all those games than with CF only.
Each patch have me equally excited for the new content and sweating in fear of the new problems I will have to take care of. This is exhausting.
I managed to make my game work but for that I had to uninstall internet explorer 8 and all its patchs, then, uninstall internet explorer 7 and all its patchs, and given the propensity of Windows XP to restart every friggin' minutes, it took A LOT of my time.
Don't you dare use the word LAZY again when people have problems with your broken game. We are suppose to just play and enjoy the game. And not only is it difficult to do that when the game works due to the batsh*t insane amount of hackers/glitchers that plague the servers, but we first have to waste hours just to fix it. -

That not a Video? It show my problem and what JuryDesEnfer is true. The only thing I didn't do is to Reformat my PC.. So we are not lazy -.- -

Run as admin if you have Windows Vista or 7.
By the way, AVG sucks. Go for Malwarebytes or Microsoft Security Essentials, but MSE can get quite buggy when using real-time protection.
how does AVG suck? I have windows 7. I run AVG all the time, even when i play. I also dont need to run as admin.
