Well content or no content, we get a lot of people coming onto the forums and either congratulating or flaming us and the staff because of the patch. If you actually think real back to the mutation patch. Many players, in the first few days ran on and said that the patch was amazing, and that the implementation was also highly entertaining.
Push up a few weeks to right before the escape mode patch. Many players were complaining about hacks that have been affiliated, such as one hit kill hack and speed hacks.
What players will do, is complain if they're having a bad day or a terrible game, but they will be happy if they're day is really fun or they have an amazing game.
Players attribute hackers to the patch. "Oh, there's a hacker. The patch is terrible." This is completely wrong. Hackers are not only XTrap's problem, they are our community's as well. We must report them via support.
Overall, thanks for some of the good posts.
I think you kind of missed the point on my example there, I couldn't think of anything in a rush so I just put that. Any question under the sun from, do you like the map you're playing to do you think Saidin would look good in a Speedo could be put on there. My point is that it would be an effective way to get direct feedback from the community without them even knowing about the forums, otherwise our main way of giving feedback.
Off to piano lessons now. -

I understand your perspective, but we must consider that many players are much to busy. Imagine the following:- It's WOGL-P Finals, let's take last season's scenario, vVv vs. LPK
- doop vs blitzed for the finals, last round, last map [Castle, tiebreaking map]
- doop is about to go for the win and defuse, but the thing pops up. If he has to wait a second to press 0 and exit, he will lose, what does he do?
-
Since Saidin should be full of work I'll post my ideas of add-ons here.
- An add-on to ban an user from a thread (would prevent the flame wars on certain threads)
- An add-on to auto-lock ancient threads, ie a thread would get locked when some time passed (would prevent necro posting)
- An add-on to prevent newbies from posting on the wrong forum (says it all)
- Thread prefixes on Fanworks and suggestion sections.
- A reputation system where only Moderators, Game Masters and the original poster could give it, or users which his post count was above a certain number (would prevent farming, farming = loss of its purpose)
- Forum ribbons (that are planned).
Please note that I'm informed that such systems do already exist. -

That is a good idea, but a few that I don't think would be necessary:
- An add-on to prevent newbies from posting on the wrong forum (says it all)
Newbies aren't always players with low post count. Some of them may just be lurkers that have been playing since closed beta, but could care less to post on any thread at any given time. Could you elaborate? The add-on could be a suggesting software, or something of that nature?
- A reputation system where only Moderators, Game Masters and the original poster could give it, or users which his post count was above a certain number (would prevent farming, farming = loss of its purpose)
I've private messaged countless times about this in the past, but the thing is, the staff can't find a working vBulletin alternative to the past Karma system that works every time. If every player can "rep", there is no point in having one. I can't think that there isn't a way to do it, but it's not practical at this time. -

It should be noted that while we're on vB we have a major hurdle of having it integrated with our website. So yes, I agree there's tons of add-ons that would make things better. Lets get some of the built in features working first! But these are good ideas (obviously stuff like prefixes is probably a good idea, ribbons will hopefully do stuff etc).
Thanks for the suggestions! -

I may be wrong in assuming you've come across what I'm talking about here. It's a small, transparent, no bigger than five cm by five cm box that "unobtrusively" appears in the bottom corner of the screen. It has no effect on game play, even the number buttons used to answer are not commonly used and are not included in the default setup. It will not interrupt play, it is not a box that looks like the "You have been kicked by votekick" notification, it will not force you to press 0 and exit, the whole idea behind it is it is optional. There is no need to even look at it if one does not want to. Granted, being present only in the lobby is a valid point, but I know for a fact that in between rounds and while I'm dead in game I would have nothing better to do then answer a few questions. -

I see now.
Basically a small box that shows a bit of a survey. It would help, but many players would usually disregard it, as many players could care less about the game.
Including that would be a pretty good way to collect information, however. -

The box can stay there until they vote... -
granted that if player a helps players b and c does not mean player f will tag along. as polleus said most of this community is lacking maturity due to their age and well what can you do about that? either put an age limit or make this community somewhat of a dictatorship and tell them if they do not follow a set attitude they will not be able to play. utopias do not exist in the real world nor will they ever exist in a gaming community. it's something that everyone tends to strive for but cannot be reached with countless different mindsets focused on different aspects in life and in this case the game. Some people do not care on how they act online; i mean it is only a game and nothing of importance. Others would like to make a career out of the game and thus have to keep a professional outlook. Others just have the decency to know what's right and wrong and act accordingly. This community has all those types of people but mostly are made up of kids who feel this game is simply just a game and nothing more. they know that if they curse out some guy or whine they will not be punished or looked down upon in the real world. if games were as important to us as they are to Korea then this would not be an issue. You sign up with your #SSN and your life is dependent on what you do in said game. It's pathetic and this would not be applied in our regime but that is technically the only way to "perfect the community." Placing stricter measures should help but then again you're only changing half a dozen players who turn out to not even be the source for all the negative views this community holds.

Reciprocity is definetly nice to recieve. If you see someone in game make a nice shot or clutch to win for your team or even a player from another team you can easily congratulate them with little risk of being berrated by egotistic nerds. In any game im in i try and make a point of supporting my team and any player that makes good shots. Yet i have noticed that in Echo 8 everyone is so absorbed with their own score and gameplay that no one ever congratulates others. Its rather depressing because you can also notice that Echo 8 has the most ridiculous arguments of any other channel in my opinion. There is always somebody picking on somebody for lagging or sucking this one game. Its disheartening to see the most supposedly professional and competitive channel be so filled with egomaniacs. This is why i rarely play in Echo. I prefer my nice little collection of asians and Aussies in WC 1. Well maybe not the aussies... jk :DDD

Yes, I know that maturity is a huge issue, and I also note that maturity isn't an overnight thing, but, I think that we, speaking from a community's perspective, would rather see something such as a forumer who tries to act mature, even though he is not mature in reality, or a "jokester", so to say. Obviously, we can't investigate or interrogate every forumer that comes in because there would be much too big of a line up.
You don't know who comes in. Face it, I could come onto these forums and say that I am a 30 year old virgin that sits at home and plays Cross Fire all day, and, kind of making fun of myself, some would believe if I backed it up. Sadly, that's true in communities. Any player can come in, albeit, if he's 12, and say that he is 16 to get into a clan, guild, group, or team. In addition, dictatorship is somewhat already in this community, but in a manner of fascism, which is the control of a "government", for example, the Z8Games staff members, over a group of people, with sometimes enemies being eliminated.
Z8Games controls our day to day actions. We get reprimanded for our actions IF THEY SEE FIT. Though they do not do that, nothing stops Saidin from coming onto the forums, and banning every player. Of course, he's not going to do that, because he's mature and he knows how to run a forum.MyAWM wrote:utopias do not exist in the real world nor will they ever exist in a gaming community. it's something that everyone tends to strive for but cannot be reached with countless different mindsets focused on different aspects in life and in this case the game. Of course, nothing's perfect. That's why we have war, terror, and sadness. Tragedies are all over the world, but, with every door closed, there are a few opened up for us to strive and explore.
Though this can be a gaming community, and this may sound cheesy, we all get to know each other, and we build relationships. For example, LPK, a professional gaming team that we all know and love, are very close. I mean, they've went through many things, and they know each other personally. Heck, they've spent time in China with each other.
Obviously, many players could care less about how they act online, but rules are made to follow, not to break. Rule breakers shouldn't be allowed to post on the forums, and, regarding the fact that nothing's perfect, the forum aren't either.MyAWM wrote:This community has all those types of people but mostly are made up of kids who feel this game is simply just a game and nothing more. they know that if they curse out some guy or whine they will not be punished or looked down upon in the real world. if games were as important to us as they are to Korea then this would not be an issue. You forget that Korea is communist. Canada is a constitutional monarchy, and America is a democratic country. We value others. Your suggestion to the #SSN means nothing because they've been ordered to do that, and the actions on Korean cyber world stay there. Korea has a strict hold on their citizens. We, as North Americans, have freedom of speech.
Sure, freedom on speech isn't something we all have all of the time on an internet forum, but we should be allowed to say what we want, as long as staff allows it, meaning it's not against the rule.
I see where you're coming from, but immaturity is something that is everywhere, but it can be averted if one has the right mindset. Bans do exist, but not everybody is mature 100% of the time. -

the #SSN wasn't my suggestion lol. in conclusion i think we cannot do anything to stop people from doing what they do now unless rules are enforced at a much stricter level and by the looks of it, they really aren't. -

Oh, I apologize.
Well, strict"er" rules would make it easier, but it would be harder on all the others who are just at the line. That is, not doing anything wrong, but not doing anything necessarily right. -

Then don't post if you're not intelligent enough. Evidently, we're not going to judge you if your English is horrid, as long as we get the idea and it's intellectual... well, post it. -
Are you guys forgetting this is a FREE GAME?
A free game attracts three kinds of people:
1.) poor people
2.) kids
3.) foreigners (see #1)
This is just how it is. If you want to deal with a game that isn't full of loudmouth jackasses, play counter strike source, they're like one third, or one half full of jackasses
