wireless Vs LAN

i was told one time that u shouldn't use wireless , that game runs better. Well Ive ran wireless most of the tine Ive play this game , wireless G router and an N1 router never noticed difference between the 2 routers in game play. I decided to run AN LAN Line to my bed room where my laptop is stationed that i play on so now I'm not on wireless and still dont see any difference in game play , doesn't run smoothers or nothing but i have noticed i dont get disconnected at alll now , you know them annoying disconnects for no reason dosent happen now. So what do u guys think about wireless and LAN , what do u use ?

I'm posting this in white just for You bud!

  • That is exactly the point of a direct line. With wireless you get alot more ping spikes and a whole lot more connectivity issues. When you run hard-wired the only way those will happen is if something on your actual connection happens.

I didnt have any ping spikes with wireless i changed to LAN cause mr router was taking a crap on me , and some one said LAN was better but i dont see it
  • wireless is almost as good as wired depends on what the comp that the router is plugged is doing if its downloading ure ping is gonna get higher but otherwise u get as much speed as wired only problem is when ure timed and have 2 restart the router thats why u should spend money on buying a good 1

i had three computer running off one router and even having them all three on and doing downloads and stuff still never affected my ping some time i have 5 running at same time
  • well if my comp is downloading like very fast 4-5mb/s then it affects it but if its a slower dl it doenst have any effect on wireless (btw im using 802.11g not the fastest draft-N )
  • its not that hard to understand..............

Wired equals no chance of signal noise (ie static, ie disruption) (except if the wire is nicked, or ran along side high voltage power line)....
so wired equals more stable connection...

Wireless is great and dandy, but can under some sitiuations not be so... Any thing from too much distance, to just having a thick wall between computer and router can cause unstable data stream.... you might run a 50ms ping ingame,, that spikes to 120 every 5 mins or so...
Also other energy waves thru the air (cell phone/radio/ em static and such can disrupt wireless signal.

    Wirelss is handy/
    wired is reliable.
  • well i was wrong still getting the annoying disconnects with my new LAN , so i really dont see no difference at all

if you are having disconect problems with wired and wireless, then the issue is not your network.....
Do u use cable internet by chance? if so the issue could be a faulty splitter. if you split your cable line to many times, or have a bad splitter in the line it can disrupt the frequency at which data is transmitted over the line... it does not always result in total loss of service but can cause spikes in you conectivity.

ALL YOUR SPELLING ERORS ARE BELNGS TO MEH!!!!

well yes i do , and i was a field tech for groupwear Int for years so i know all about cable internet digital phones and all that BS. Ther reason ive had all the disconnects is because i have bad modem , i just had them run a ping test and ping my modem , so ill have to wait tell sat. to get my new one.

oh i just noticed r u talking chit bout my spelling???? cause i mean for real WHO GIVES A PARC i mean lets try to be adults here . Its not like u have 3 MISS spelled words!...lol
  • One problem with wireless is it's method of handling TCP/IP collisions. A wired connection will send its transmission, detect a collision, retransmit the data, and wait for an acknowledgement that the packet was received. A wireless connection will check first to see if the channel is busy. If it is, it's forced to wait a certain length of time before checking again. Once the channel is clear it can transmit.

A possible problem with this method is when you have multiple wireless devices using the router. Since wireless is unable to detect collisions directly, your computer may end up having to wait many times longer than a wired connection to send the packet.

To make a long story short: a wired connection will always be better.
  • well ive tested this and LAN and wireless both work just fine , u shouldnt have any prob's with wireless unless u have a cheap router , N1 routers really dont have prob's with sending or receiving packets new technology has come along way and if u set ur router to the right Chanel that will cut down on prob's if u do have cheap router
