**low fps problem**

hi, im writing this for my friend efebros.
he used to have 50 - 100 fps with windows xp but he decided to upgrade to windows 7 and now only has 10-40 fps which isnt right. idk the spec or infomation about his pc. hes on a desktop pc, i think its slighty old but u would think windows 7 would be quicker and yes hes dled game booster.
so if anyone has any suggestions or idea how to solve this issue it would be much appreciated from him.
thanks rob

With my old computer, I had the same issue, even by using gamebooster.
The only thing I did because of CF, is to re-install WINXP.
There's nothing he can *really* do to get all of his FPS back since WIN7 takes way more ressources than WINXP.

    What to do? Re-install XP.
  • he probably has only 1 gb of ram,for xp it's inuf but for windows 7 you need atleast 2gb ...so he should switch to xp or upgrade to 2 gb of ram...
  • ty this is what i was thinking that win7 takes up alot of resources compared with xp , ok thanks alot ill tell him what u guys suggest and if theres anyone else who can help plz feel free to say

He should take a look on ncix.com and maybe buy a new computer? My friend got something really decent for 414$ exactly.
QuadCore AMD 2.8Ghz / 4GB DDr3 1333 / GTS 250 512MB / Motherboard Gigabyte / Mid Tower Antec (dont remember the model) but anyway.. now he play everything a high settings with really good FPS.

    Just my 2 cents :p

I would go with Nvidia series, GTX 460 / 465 and you can go with ATi series 5850 + which are really good card too.

Ive always been Nvidia fan, so i just got a GTX 460 FTW Edition 1GB and let me tell you that it handle everything at MAX settings (currently playing COD: Black Ops / Vindictus / Trackmania / Crysis:Warhead and Metro 2033)

Problem is.. i've built a pc recently, an i5 760 2.8ghz (quad) / 4gb ddr3 1333mhz / asus motherboard etc.. etc.. and now, in Crossfire, im getting over 380FPS in a 5v5 which is UNPLAYABLE (seems like im floating.. like if i am on the moon, everything is so slooooooow, takes like 5-6sec to switch weapons.. I hate that)
It happen also when I was playing Counter-Strike in the old time.. but guess what? Counter-Strike had a console that you can bring on and do FPS_MAX 100! Not CF.
In a 8v8 pub i play fine (average of 160fps)
    ..

Dont even bother to ask me 1v1.. 700FPS+ hahahha

So yeah, your build will be fine but you will face the same issue as me :p

  • theres programs you can get (such as game booster) that will turn off programs taking up space that will help alot, i use it and it has helped boost my fps jumping from 15-40 to a streight 50-60, still not to high but it stops the messed up fram jumping ^^
  • If he likes Win7 just tell him to keep it and use dual boot. Use XP for games and Win7 for everything else.
