Are the Forums Dying or Already Dead?

Wrong
A lot of you think that the forums have died but with burden from the trolls gone, the forum has been given a second chance to redeem itself through mature people. In essence, the forums are not going to die, the forums are going through reincarnation as the phoenix does when it nears its end. That is my $3.09 on the matter. Hehe. -
I apologize for the wall-o-text. I felt I should give my thoughts on this. Please take the time to read it through as I have taken the time to write it.
It's very simple. Online communities (gaming and non-gaming related) live and die with the members. Sure, it is ultimately up to the management (GM's, Moderators, Administrators) to make sure there is some sort of order. However, without the effort of its users to make a better place, there will be no better place.
Having said that, do I think the forums are dying? My honest opinion, on and off the record, is no. This community is still growing, whether you want to believe it or not. It will go through phases from a lot of daily activity to very little daily activity. That is the cycle of an online community. There are still people, however few they may be, that are interested in making this a better place.
I am not here to judge you on whether or not you are in that group. But I am here to voice that this is simply a phase change for this community. Online communities recycle. Old users leave, new users join, etc. It is our job (those who decide to stick around through the growing pains) to keep the life in this community. Whether that may be actively and positively posting new ideas and/or helping other people or hosting events, etc.
What we should not do however, is constantly dwell on the negatives. Day0, there are always going to be negatives. You sometimes speak how this community is never going to get better. How can we move forward if people are always looking backwards and looking at things in a negative manner? Everyone should have answered this by now, we can't.
We must must must see the positives in every aspect of our community or things simply will not move forward. Do I dislike the fact that there is such a large ping difference in players? Yes. Do I dislike the fact that I get kicked more than I'd like to be? Yes. Do I dislike the fact that I get caught on stairs/walls/invisible glitches? Yes. Am I still here trying to enforce something positive? Yes. After everything Day0, I am still here. Do I know there are some negative things here? Of course I do. Can we change it? No.
Let's not look at how this community seems to be dying. Let's look at how this community is changing and focus on what we can do to help it change in a more positive way. There is no sense in dwelling on what we can not change or control. Let's focus on being positive in whatever way we can and encourage people to do the same. There is no arguing that there are a lot of negatives. But if there is just one positive, then there is something to look forward to. The willingness of even a fraction of people in this community to make everything better. That's what we should look to and that's what we need to grow upon. -
As much as I dont want to read that.. I have read a little of it. xD[MOD]Polleus wrote: »I apologize for the wall-o-text. I felt I should give my thoughts on this. Please take the time to read it through as I have taken the time to write it.

Yeah I dont really think its a good idea to talk about how its dying, but how it could be better for later on in the next years.
Nothing really comes good out of talking bad about a forum nor talking bad in it.
Im trying to change my behavior to someday try to become a mod too and help z8 as much as I can.
Im not sure what it takes to become a mod, but im going to try to become more relaxed, More helpful, and Gain more trust within this community.
Yes I have my 5% of haters. But I have 95% of lovers ;D
And since Ive changed my ways for the better.
This makes z8 1% closer into changing this forum.
Talking bad about a forum isnt helping forward for a better future. But those who are willing to change things about it will help.
Im gna start with something. How about I get rid of this childish group I made when I got mad at everyone lol
*10Minutes later* it has been deleted and Im gna make a new community that will benefit the forums. -
Died for me some time ago. Only in the Barracks there is some movement from time to time but it's almost dead too. Few threads, MODs locking all around and MOD-wannabes screaming "You can't do that, bla, bla..." in every 2nd thread. Lame.
As the forumers get to know that there is absolutely NO point in suggesting things because none gives a f*ck W&G, Maps and Suggestions were officially dead.
As for know for me the forum serves as a news board. Rarely there is something to read and write - like this thread.
Peace! -
What do you think? Idk about you...Just I seem to see the same people post everyday. Also a different assumption is that a lot of people are less upbeat & aren't as fun as they were before. (Trolls Now Or Just Left Altogether)
(Sections other than CrossFire Barracks are basically dead.)
So what do you think forums dead, dying, or everything is peachy keen?
Just a question, if you will ask me I would say dying.
It's the Forum Aids. -
Ty for all your opinions on this especially Polleus. (Just got home from school) I agree with you somewhat. Just isn't there a time where it's just too late for everything you just said?
Depends on how you look at it. You see everyone leaving and everyone gone as being "too late" or "a dead community". I see everyone leaving and everyone who has gone simply as a phase change. There are going to be more people, it's inevitable. Are you going to be part of the group that sticks around to influence the new guys? There are always going to be people that leave and people that stay and new people that join. It's just a matter of influencing those who come in to act and conduct themselves the proper way. -

Technically this community is growing, lots of new players and forumers coming everyday. But is it a nice, mature community? No. Myself used to post quite a lot in the suba forums and it was nothing like the forumer community currently.
Nowadays I just lurk the WOGL forum and barracks posting ocasionally in worthwhile topics such as this one. I've read some really interesting oppinions here. Before the off-topic forum was quite interesting and you could host some nice threads. Now it's munzta's and trolls home and I don't even dare to post there.
There's still some quality posters but just a small fraction as before. Perhaps it could be improved with discussion topics such as this one? They last quite a few pages between it's closed due to flame/4chan image fest.
@SmilyFace, they probably left now since the grades are starting to kick in and they are failing at it. -
That my friend, was a horrible comparison.

On the side note, the community isn't dead. It's just not a good one left. -
Not sure what you thought the comparison was but his phoenix comparison was excellent...and your comparison was even worse.

Related to a well-known icon and a phenomenon that is indeed happening. -

Is it? You that have been around since the begging, truly believe we will have a mature/decent forumer community again? I highly doubt it since the patches are catering to the opposite group of people.
A few examples; bunny ears, STAR etc. I'm not saying character customization is a bad thing, but I'm pretty sure those kind of items do not attract a mature community.the only time this community was remotely close to good was in closed beta where everyone who has currently posted in this worthless thread wasn't a part of.
So that includes yourself? Quite an invalid argument. How could you possibly know if the community was "remotly close to good" if you weren't a part of it? -
I'm pretty sure those kind of items do not attract a mature community.
Mature people attract mature conversation as is the same with the immature side. Mature conversation is more likely to attract other mature people than not. The problem is the only thing people ever see anymore are pointless threads and immature arguments which in turn create more of the same thing. I believe through constant, mature conversation and discussion we can move forward to a more mature community. That is a two-way street with both users and administrators.
