How fast is your Internet?

I know most major cities in the US have gone optic fiber. The news link I posted above means good news for Europe/UK. Once you guys go fiber it should make ping speeds much better and faster.

As far as I know light is the fastest method of communication right now. If it takes 9 minutes for light from the sun to reach our skin, it should be able to zip from Europe to a WestCoast LA CrossFire server... in 35ms (estimation). Anyone who subscribes to optic fibre should be able to play at near-LAN speeds.

I don't think cable (which is copper but still provides up to 100MBps) is technically as FAST as optic fiber. It just has a large pipeline...

on a side note.. how much ping equals a full second?

im from romania they upgraded out internet to optic fiber like 2 years ago and i get around 60-70MB DL in romania and around 40-50 in canada, but the ping is still 150! in romania i have less then 10 in every city!

edit, is crossfire servers hosted in truro? because i tested alot of other us and ca servers and i usually get around 110-110 but in truro i get 146(my ping in game)

I live in Edmonton/Alberta where the only isp that is available is Shaw. AFAIK Shaw only hook up the buisnesses with fiber optic and the highest you can go up to with cable is 10mbps download and 1mpbs of upload.

Are the servers actually located in LA. if so it would be good to test out your internet speeds at www.speedtest.net. im gonna do it now on an la server. if there is one on this site
