RE: Canada Vs Usa? Thread. *Quebec edition*
Since i wrote a wall on it, I tought making a reply thread instead of reply directly in the thread, so if you take time to read that, thank you, I appreciate it.
You will probably be surprised by my personal "winner" if you take time to read it all.
My opinion.
The first 13 colonies were a joke, first "american" flag was placed in Gaspésie(Quebec/CA) and since the VERY begining Quebec is asking a referendum to be a country... biggest province of canada... and the only place in the world with Harmless Hydro-Electricity, States and Canada would be on their knees to get our electricity when nuclear and combustibles energies are gonna fail... think about it who will be the only one to have electricity when there will be no more fuel... Who could sell electricity at skyhigh prices to other countries? Indeed, Québec... and not Canada because the only owner of the 60 hydro-electric centrals that we have is the governement of Québec (So if one day we become a country, Canada does not own even 0.1% of the company shares.) We are the world biggest Hydro-energy producers.
Just so you have an idea, in 2009 we produced 36 810 MegaWatt of electricity (average of 613.5 MW PER central) , and we provided 188,7 TerraWatt per hour (50 to 200 TW = rate of heat energy release by a Hurricane or 4 to 6 times the heat a "H" bomb can release) to our customers... Meaning we made around $15 000 M in year 2009 just on hydro-electricity.... and it is the world cheapest kind of energy.
I think that when you got the energy, you got the power...
Historical facts(Arguments)
Just take a second to think about it, why did the referendum for Québec independance had 41% yes and 59% no? Nice little controversy in our system, they trapped us in their system with a majority of 8% because of historical reasons, English-Canada would hate to see French-Canada take over since Upper(english) and Lower(french) Canada (1791) got united in 1838 after a rebelion of the french canadians because they we're sick of british people ruling them. Even today at this date, we french people are ruled by a majority english conservators that are seating in Ottawa(Ontario) and they still dare to say that the powers are shared equaly... Equal my *ss, french people have 75 seats on 308 in the chamber of communes that means we got 24% of the powers on the right to become a country.... so we need at least 26% of the english leaders to approve and all of the Québec leaders to approve, who can explain this?!... to make it fair they should give 50% of the powers to quebec(since we are the one who wants independance) so that if all the province accept becoming a country we would only need 1 english leader to say yes and finaly get independance.
I just see no equality in that.
And the winner is...
In conclusion, we're all addicted to energy and it is a fact, so I need to give the win to the USA... Why?
- 1, Because they buy a lot of energy from Québec but they are our number one customers, meaning they do what they can to help us. They win, we win everyone's happy in the end.
- 2, Because I can't give the win to Québec(cause I would.) since it is not a country but only a province of Canada and because I think Canada does not deserve it.
- 3, Because I am a French-Canadian, like they call us... the only time they can call us Québec people is when the English-Canadians are having a Quebec Bashing party or when the time comes to speak about how much money we cost them each time we need a subvention to fix problems like the health system or the scholarity system... Just give us independence and stop whining about us, Canada needs one thing, stop speaking and start taking care of their problems.
- 4, Because if the USA had never got independance, either Canada and USA would still be under the dictatorship of the UK Monarchy.
Who knows how would be life under those conditions?

USA, CANADA, UK, FRANCE, GERMANY, RUSSIA, etc... will just run u over if it means they will get the power they need

hum diddly.
at first you mention energy being power: Quebec is a part of canada, quebecs independance is not about to be realised any time soon, ergo canada has power.
whether that power is harnessed or sold is up to canada: the central canadian government could by all rights restrict who that energy goes to, or to just let it dwindle.
the situation is similar to that of Scotland and England. whilst scotland has control over the UK's offshore oil, england allows them their government, but could restrict who the scottish sell their oil to. they meet a mutually benficial agreement whereby both parties profit.HellDaCopter wrote: »we french people are ruled by a majority english conservators that are seating in Ottawa(Ontario) and they still dare to say that the powers are shared equaly... that is a democracy: democracy via majority rule. ofcourse a democracy whereby what you wanted: was in place. that isnt a democracy. the fact that you dont understand the inner working, begs the question as to why you specified that point.
Ministers in every democracy are voted into the house: if there are an unequal number of seats in the house then surely it is clear that there is a democracy at work. the fact that there are less french ministers voted in, shows this point.
again i will compare the situation to the UK: in the UK we are vastly multi cultural, there are now many generations of minor ethnic groups, some have even become major ethnic groups, so much so that these ethnic groups have been able to vote their own ministers into parliament, so they have a say in what is best for them. - almost perfect democracy.
You want to go and throw a spanner in the works: let me illustrate it.
if these ministers from other ethnic groups started saying that in fact this part of the country or that part of the country wanted to become independant, tell me how does that work? if they went further still and asked for a vote equal to that of all the votes of the majority well in your percentages it would look like this.
lets say 5% of asian (indian, pakistani etc) persuasion, another 5% of muslim or arab persuasion and then a majority of british nationals. you are suggesting that we make it so that each of these groups has a 33.3% share of the vote, as the other two groups want to break away from the majority.
I'm sorry but it really doesnt work like that...HellDaCopter wrote: »- 2, Because I can't give the win to Québec(cause I would.) since it is not a country but only a province of Canada and because I think Canada does not deserve it.

and what do you call the english speaking canadians? or the asian canadians?
how your government spends their budget is of course up to them, the Quebec government generates tax which is sent to the central government and then that is shared equally, or if quebec generates less taxes, then it is split and there are smaller budgets. quebec needs canada is my point. Quebec is not self sufficient in its own right, the taxes from all over canada are budgeted equally, when quebecs profit margins dwindle then central canadian government finances them. Quebec like Wales would collapse if they broke away from the government. they cannot be economically independant.HellDaCopter wrote: »- 4, Because if the USA had never got independance, either Canada and USA would still be under the dictatorship of the UK Monarchy.

Do you think a Queen or a King would lead better?
spoken like a true frenchman: what did they teach you at school? Whilst the US wrestled for their independance british canada was content to to help the british. correct me if im wrong, but it was only in 1982 when the canadians were relinquished from the UKs Parliament (not the monarchy)
and the feeling was mutual - you had developed to the point where there was no point fighting you. thanks to the BRITISH government.
if you check the canadian constitution, i think that you'll find that the queen or king is still the leader, if they choose to dissolve the parliament.
their heads are still on your money. it is only in the past 30 years that canda has been away from the UK completely and they have proceded at a similar rate of expansion as they were when under UK rule.
so ask your momma et papa, what it was like.
kings and queens have not ruled in the UK for over 100 years.
as far as your argument for the USA is concerned the single point i see to mention is that the USA buys your power. they need it as much as you need the money, have no doubt.
so all in all i think canada would win, except for you. -
Oh noes, a french extremist. And here I thought Hellda was alright
Hopefully Quebec won't spit, as I like the idea of a whole/united country... but until these french extremists pull all this pride out their asses, unity seems far-fetched.
Neither me or any of my friends (or school for that matter) had any resentment towards french speaking Quebecois until we went to Quebec for prom and were amazed at how "racist" you guys can be. -
Quebecer's are mad at Canada for no reason.
move back to france puzzies.
When i saw that on hte news, i was like wtf?
ur gonna be inbetween Canada. That's such an awkward spot for a country -
yeah as long as its not FDP FDP GTFO CANADA IS BETTERER... then by all means indulge us and explain.
pickle, you sound lovely and its been too long since i was on fallens vent. -
I didn't see Saidin's post, I don't check CF's Forum that often.
If he said so, I'll just copy and paste what I answered through PMs to the guy who asked my opinion (:
I tried to say that all these extremist nationalist thoughts almost always devolve into xenophobic arguments.
It all starts with "I'm better than you", and ends with conflicts. Germany and Hitler started the same way. Ofc we won't have any war anytime soon between Canada and the USA, that's not what I meant. I'm just talking about these self-aclaimed thoughts, that are a big waste of time, at least for me.
In the end we're all the same. Everyone wants the progress and the best to our countries. -

easy there tiger... it was a skirt for a start, and i know, i looked sexy.
when my college bus driver saw me he was eyeing me up till i got on the bus and paid , and then he was like 'OMG i was thinking i would do that'
OT: its not really country specific elitism is it? agreed, its certainly not a fair question to ask, as there are far to many variables, and opinions on what makes a country great.
Perhaps a better question to ask is: What makes Canada great and what makes America great? -

Kind of approve what you said, but its not "extremist national toughts".... it is just my point of view based on history... theres some people who replied to me who are very wrong but not trolling, but I could go on for hours replying those people and talking about those kind of stuff, don't think i'm a angry person cause I'm not ^^ btw never got to meet you yet so, wsup :P
