Issue with SteelSeries 5Hv2

Hi, I recently bought the great SteelSeries 5Hv2 usb headset.

Apparently the usb soundcard is not detected/supported by the game.

I got a pair of Microsoft Lifechat lX-3000 that works fine with the game but If I try to run the game with my new steelseries, I just won't get any sound.

I've got the latest drivers downloaded from the steelseries site.

The headset works fine in any settings in other games and in windows.

The only software giving me difficulties is crossfire...

This is kinda frustrating because I bought these as an upgrade to the Lifechat...

If you got any information regarding my issue please share.

Thank you.

  • This is weird, cause i am using 5HV2 usb version without any problems.. I would recommend reinstall of drivers, it really should work without any difficulties.. What kind of Windows youre using?
  • I'm using win xp media center (which is basically 32 bit)

It is true that the first time I tried to install the driver I did have a little problem. They kept getting installed over and over... I will try an uninstall/reinstall tonight and see if that's the issue.

Thing is though. I launched Far Cry 2, Rainbow Six Vegas and Call of Duty Modern Warfare and the sound was there for all of those :/

That's why I was pretty sure that my drivers were ok :s

Anyway I will try it to be sure. Tks for the answer.
  • Update: it does not work. I reinstalled the driver, reinstalled the game. Every other software works fine.

Call of duty 4, Counter Strike, Teamspeak etc but nothing comes out when playing CF...

    This is really frustrating...
  • Wow, thats really weird.. I would like to help, but dont have a clue how :-/ I was playing on Vista 32bit with no problems, usb soundcard set to 8channels, speakers with that virtual emulation and it was really fine.. You should ask the helpdesk of steelseries, there must have been some problem in comunication with device, they could know where the problem is..

One last idea.. You have reinstalled the driver from the cd? If so, maybe you should try drivers from steelseries website, there are drivers 2.10, i dont know, maybe theyre better than the cd ones (ive lost my cd). Right now the steelseries download section is out of order, but those drivers are also here: http://driverscollection.com/?H=5H%20v2%20USB&By=SteelSeries There have special XP folder here.. But maybe you tried that already..
  • Go to your sound drivers, which is located on the bottom-right of the screen. Usually located by the time previewed.

If your on vista, and you can't see it - right click anywhere in the play back (white space) and click "Show Disabled Devices". Then, enable yours if you see it.

If you see it, make sure its your "Default", by clicking "Set as Default".
  • Thanks for the replies guys but I've tried all of this.

I really don't get why CF is the only application not working with the soundcard. :(

Right now the Steelsound soundcard is the only sound device I got installed. The onboard Realtek has been disabled and the drivers are up to date with the Steelseries 2.10 drivers.

I'm gonna try the steelseries helpdesk but if someone had the same issue and solved it, I would really appreciate any information regarding it.

    Thanks again.
