Cross server scrims.

The big issue when the EU server comes out will be the fact that NA teams won't want to play on that werver, and vice versa.

My suggestion to get around this:

Scrim Format:

2 maps
7 round halves

One team chooses the first map. You play that map on the opposing team's server.

Afterwards, the other team chooses the map, and it is played on the opposite team's server.

(You can't both choose the same map)

That way both teams have a disadvantage.

Comments

  • EU server is not coming soon(or at all) so it's not a problem for now.
  • Is this actually a civilized post? ;)

Keeping the games fair is definitely something to consider. If we get servers in locations other than North America an idea like this could be enforced in the rules of a tournament or event. There would be quite a few QQing, but hopefully people would see that it splits the advantage.

Sometimes player skill is about adapting to your environment rather than just being better than the other player. In this case, adapting to a higher ping.

While we're on the subject, what about (currently) asking players who are in Europe to make note of that fact when they register for a tournament and then are paired with other European teams for the round robin.

Obviously as more teams get eliminated eventually the European players will have to play NA teams. But we could implement an option for players signing up to denote their location to allow priority for round robin play.

    Will EU server ever come?
  • Like the idea, but i think that what ever clan is GR, they let BL choose map because they are the guests* and then after when both halves are played the clan picks there map when the other guys are GR.

Wow, this game is just one disappointment after another, so it goes from; UK Server coming soon! UK Server will definitely be here in November! UK Server has been delayed but we're doing our best to bring it to you! To yeah we don't think a UK server is coming, but there may possibly be a server outside of NA in the future...who knows? maybe it'll start itself up or something.

G ****ing G Saidin. This game is ****ing ******ed.

They have to locate an area outside of NA, they wont be like "Ok guys lets pick Germany and just get it over with, who cares about problems" it takes time to enforce the servers and also get permission from the creators of the game.

Well thanks for clearing all of that up for me, except oh yeah i already knew all of that and i still have a right to be ****ed off. My point is that they have made multiple promises and backed out of all of them. Z8 seem to say whatever they want to keep people happy at the time with no intention at all to back any of them up with actions. Why say they will be bringing us a UK server if they knew they couldn't get the rights for it from Neowiz.
  • I'm euro and even I am getting pretty sick of these posts lacking any resemblance of intelligence requesting UK server.
Do it properly or not at all.

    Excellent suggestion Denxi. <3

So ping differentces does matter. I mean when you are shootin someone with 100ping higher/lower than you it doesn't matter for the 1st shot. But then when you start peekin out and notice you peek back behind the wall, reload OMFG WDF I got hsed 2 seconds afterwards.
What is the timing in seconds for ping differences?
As in if someone had 100 ping and another guy had 300, how many seconds apart are they?

This is an example of how to take a legitimate discussion and demolish it to flame wars and spam posts.

For one, the answer is right there. There is no news of a UK server. Right now, it's on delay. Posting that it was going to be available in the fall of last year was a mistake by us. We've admitted to that. Get over it.

When we know more about a server that can facilitate Europeans better we will post about it. Whether that server is located in the UK or not. But only when we know concrete information so we can avoid the mistakes of the previous year.

Since Denxi's post was about what would happen IF a server was located somewhere other than North America I felt that it was a good opportunity to discuss those options with regards to tournaments and events. He makes a good point that can be applied to any location in the world (hence the "outside of North America" comment). IF and When a server located anywhere this discussion could be applied.

Not to mention his discussion could be relevant no matter what time of the year. Whether it's now, 2 months from now or 2 years from now. The original topic was kept reasonable and deserved a reasonable answer.

However if you feel the need to curse and swear about not having a server in the UK then I will feel the need to delete your posts, infract your account and leave the discussion to the people who can keep it civil.

So why isn't UK server a top priority? How many hours have been spent on it since you tried and failed? What are YOU doing personally about fulfilling the promises YOU made?
  • ummmm....
so they said they'ed get a Uk server last year...

Then they say Sorry, not gona happen just yet. but we are still looking into it...

what is the issue ? they have redacted their previous promise... at this point they owe nothing to u in regards to a Uk server. And you can't really call them liars sence they have come out and said they are not putting a UK server in any time soon.
    things change.. get over it?

if your just going to rage a saiden then u might as well just leave. I'm pretty sure he has better things to do then argue with a 12 year old kid out a stupid server. THIS is a NA based game if you have a problem with by all means go else where
  • Would be the worst idea ever, I'm in california so I would ping 1000. Euros agaisnt Euros and NA against NA.

OK, before you call me a 12 year old kid, why don't you go and get educated Also, who the hell is saiden? Stop white-knighting, let me remind you:

SAIDIN WILL NEVER SLEEP WITH YOU, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WHITEKNIGHT. YOU SYCOPHANTIC ****.

Ok, so let's roleplay. Let's pretend i'm your employer and i tell you that i guarantee you your job, we definitely won't be making you redundant. Then a couple of weeks down the line i come back to you and tell you that oh yeah you are fired, and your redundancy settlement is pretty weak, but hey you have to accept it because there's **** all else you can do. i then tell you that i'm sorry and things have changed since i made that promise.

You just gonna accept that? Or be annoyed and want more answers than just things have changed and that i'm sorry?

I ping 190 on the servers in Canada, and about 210-220 on the West Cost Server, actually I'm living in Germany, but my f... bad provider needs a proxy to join the internet, so my ping is 'boosted' by 60 couse of this fact.

I personally like the idea of Denxi, it would make the things more or less equal for both sides of the ocean.

He's not white-knighting. He just realizes that you're a moron. Z8 is responsible for NA CF, and only NA CF. Anything else is a side project that takes the backseat to keeping the current servers running. Also, you should make sure to punctuate correctly when telling someone to get educated.

Feel annoyed all you want, but you're SOL as long as the employer hasn't breached their contract with you. Z8 has not breached any contract with you, so put your big girl panties on and stfu.

Thanks for pointing out that my metaphor is correct. Why does everyone think that making promises then proceeding to break promises is a-ok as long as you said that you were sorry?
  • Minty- wrote: »

    ^^ This.

NA should play NA and EU should play EU.

All there is to it. I personally wouldn't want to go from 10 to 200 ping just because it would make it "fair". Teams should play on the server they get the best ping in and face team in that same ping region.

As for tournaments, that's why we have ESL EU and ESL NA soon to come. WOGL has made the decision to allow people from anywhere, and there going to try and match teams up by country as best as they can.

EU's could just meet in beta and if they find a EURO team they can say "meet us EU server channel 9" they go they scrim. Or there are other things they can do as well such as xfire groups, etc.

In a competitive scrim nobody should have the disadvantage of lagging.. That's just stupid.

    NA vs NA

    EU vs EU

    BR vs BR
  • Thanks for pointing out that my metaphor is correct. Why does everyone think that making promises then proceeding to break promises is a-ok as long as you said that you were sorry?

Oh, please. Saying "We'll release the server on such and such a date. Oh damn, problems have come up. This isn't worth the time/money now, we need to delay it," isn't breaking a promise, it's correctly running a business. Stop acting like you're entitled to a UK server. Z8 was planning on doing the server, problems came up, they had to put it on hold. They're under no obligation to bring you a new server, and there's nothing you can do about it. Stop whining about how the company won't release the product that you want.
  • I think its a good idea for any z8 tournys in the future.

But otherwise i think unless both teams agree and trust each other, i think Eu vs EU and US vs US.

Would be pretty lame if you decided to play 2 matchs, but the team who gets the home game first, leaves after the first match because they had the advantage and dont want to play on the others server.

Control don't lie ur ping is 5. LOL <3 u
  • That seems like a perfectly fair solution once to EU server comes :P Although, I don't really care one way or another if it comes or not, I'll just have an even higher ping.
  • Instead of forcing teams to swap servers so they both get a huge ping disadvantage on one map, try to find a location that would be neutral.

The best location for an EUvNA server would be Iceland. That way, both teams will have roughly a 100 ping.

    Ping is measure in milliseconds. 1000 milliseconds = 1 second. 300 ms + 100 ms = 400 ms = 0.4 seconds.
  • @ Minty and Control.

Then don't play euros. This thread was aimed at people who want to scrim with euros but want to even the playing field a bit. There's no point in you even posting here =\
