Question for Ghost Mode Pros?

Just wondering...

In the "pro" ghost mode community is breath down, axes/shovels, armor etc looked down upon?

ps: I know I am terrible at ghost mode but... breath down I can't hear anything not to mention its hard enough to see ghosts warping through the air at your face swinging a shovel that insta gibs you.

Ok, so is there some secret for hearing ghosts with breath down or I am I deaf?
  • What most people would do is crack up the sound even more, lets say 100 for sound effect and max for computer and headphones, It should help but I wouldn't do that, you'll go deaf with headphones on.
  • reduce foot steps and breath are just other sounds, just lower, find them and replace with normal sounds and those items will have no effect..

I am way too stupid to do that however. I think ill just jump around with a kriss while downloading something.

edit: Thanks for the information however.

    ima "pro" GM'er

and the only thing i personaly hate its the range of the shovel, anything and everything else is fine by me...
  • The secret is USB headphones. most regular headphone jack headphones can't pinpoint.

i look down on scar lights, spops, shovels, armour.

breath down should be deleted if they are going to keep shovels (which they are)

That's not possible. Luckily it isn't.

    EDIT: yay 500 posts.

same with me, step noise down is useless though.
  • I guess you could say that I'm one of the better GM players. I usually play GR and as far as I stand BRING IT ON!

Use what ever you want. Use your axe or shovel. Get breath and footstep down. Bunny hop all you want!

Do ANYTHING you can to give me a better fight and make me work for my kills.

I prefer a tougher fight over an easy one.

First off; Go ahead and turn up SFX, haha...Breathing isn't a SFX. Breathing, Footsteps, Gun-fire & Grenades SND is on the server packs. SFX ONLY adjusts the SND packs that come with the download of the game. So increasing SFX will not only mask the breathing...but be an annoyance in-game play (too loud of game play).

WRONG! There is ABSOLUTELY 0 DIFFERENCE IN USB to MONO JACK HEADPHONES. I'm a Licensed & Certified Audio Engineer. There's absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in audio between the two. Both your USB and Mono jacks produce the SAME OHMs to power the THREE ranges of sound; Low, Mids & Hi's. The brunt of the breathing is in the range of low to mid-low pan, so you'll need to find a pair of headphones that produce rich low/bass sound. The difference is the quality in which the magnet(s) produce the energy inside the headphones.

Like ANYTHING in life, ghost mode DOES NOT come easy to ANYONE at first. If someone tells you other wise...they're lying. You may be ok your first time, but NOBODY is great, as there's the little things in GM that you'll learn that make you great. The only REAL thing that is looked down on in the higher-ups of the GM gamers is the shovel as it poses such a higher advantage. Other than that- the rest are fine as playing against them, the adjustment isn't far off (if your experienced in the format). As far as armor...playing against it is like playing against lag. It's not impossible, but it can be a pain in the a** at times, but nothing serious. And regarding noise-reduction; The right headphones will pick it up easier...and your experience in the format will 'train' you to pinpoint breath down (My headphone advise below). The ONLY thing even the GREATEST headphones won't pick up is the lag breath (bhop+ noise down = lag breath). There's a 0 Snd trail, and if the bhopper is GOOD enough, you won't hear his/her breath until after your dead. It's unfair, but we can't blame anyone but the developers, as bhopping is a sting code (funct) mistake/fault, as is the lag breath. Like lag- we just have to deal with it in public games.

    MY HEADPHONE ADVISE:
       • DO NOT USE EAR BUDS
       • Use a band headphone, ear cup style. The design of the headphones is for optimum listening; For ALL ranges of processing, most importantly the OHMs, mW & Pan to pinpoint ghosts the BEST.
       • 10-20 mW is the standard processing of your earbuds and CHEAP headphones. Simply purchasing headphones with 100+ dB Sensitivity rating will be enough. This will be anywhere from 30mW+. But I MUST WARN YOU: The higher the dB the greater the risk of damaging your ear drums. Headphones produce such high levels of dB, and longer periods of constant dB's emitting into your ears (non stop) CAN pose an issue later in life; Deafness, Impaired listening, etc...In my field we learn to exercise and 'train' so to speak our ears, as they are our tools. Between games [waiting], take your headphone off, allowing your ears to breath in a sense. This will assure your ears capability are running at peak. It only takes one pop in sound to blow the tissue in your ear drum. Give your ears a 5min break every 1.5-2hrs.
       • Simply looking for 'High Resolution' or 'High Definition' will be enough, but some packages WILL NOT specify, so knowing the specs is GREAT.

With that said; The three different pairs of headphones I use are: Beats By Dr. Dre (what I use MOST when gaming), Pioneer HDJ 2000's & Gemini DJX03's. It all depends on what's nearest me. You can buy GREAT quality headphones for $20 if you KNOW what your looking for.
  • I use an axe and in my defence the only advantage an axe has to the knife is 1 hit body kill with right click. It is heavier, slower, less damage and less range than shovel. People who are good wih knife could easliy be better than an axe user whereas a shovel takes a lot less skill.
  • Im a mainly GR player, and i think Breath Down has been changed recently. Before when it first was released, I noticed no difference in the breath down, I could pp the same. Now i can sometimes run into people w/o hearing them at all. You just have to be a bit more steady dont run through open areas / etc. I have volume on 23, But i have quite loud headphones anyway.

I do look down on Shovel Users. I even tell my clan to grow some when using shovels. Same them till the special ocasions for example playing hacker clans. Breath down was a bad idea, Especially considering everyone can bhop now, Has made GR difficult, I do camp a lot more than i used to. -_-

I dont mind axes too much, Because at least if they hit your feet, Your not dead... =.=
Unlike the shovel, I rly think it should be nerfed. There should be a chance to do 80 dmg, especially with armor on. I dont know why being hit by a shovel on your feet would do more dmg, than being knifed in the face... -.-

    There's my opinion. :)

And Since Bobby made a post about Headphones
    i got 3 pairs too.

For 15$ i got Sony MDR-XD100, Worked very well, Very cheap, Can hear long distance.
For 70$ I got Sony MDR-NC6, Use these the most, Can hear a lot clearer than ^
For about 200$ i got Sennheiser PC350, Amazing headphones. Bro uses them a lot for CoD though '=.= [Has Mic]

I've noticed sound glitching ALOT lately. Not the typical 'breathing everywhere' glitch, but the 'no breath, camping' glitch. The ONLY places in the map I experience it are Top Hallway above A & lower A near central bride to ramp. I'm not sure if its a response issue with the Map_UI, but I've experienced it alot; Not hearing breathing [period], and the player was camping.

And as far as not one shotting with the axe, doing say '80 DMg'; Play on my ping, haha...90% of the time I'm facing off with tanks. It gets EXTREMELY frustrating...Esp. when over-hands with an axe, or a CLEAR hs with the knife equals 70'ish dmg due to latency differences (ping/lag).
  • yeah id say the B'down has been changed as well. sometimes there is no breath and then you are dead, or you dont hear it till you are ontop of it, or its all around...
since our 'discussion' with bobby, i'd say that i look down on armor uses ( both BL and GR) and shovel users and on occasion b'down users, when used in conjunction with armor and shovel.
i have started using the knife more often and only use my axe, when im really annoyed. i dont use b'down anymore. i cant afford armor, so i dont use that.
some people like the guys from phantom kit themselves out with armor, spops, b'down and shovels, add that to their 40> and then they think that they are pro. they arent.

my headphones are inear headphones, they cos like 30 pounds from sony. they are good, the bass is good, sound quality is good, stereo helps :p. my headset cos 5 pounds and is terrible, my laptop speakers are better.
  • don't use shovel, breath down or thompson/kriss and you'll be fine.

I personally look down upon knife-spammers more then axe-users.

But then again, I do love my axe.

Yea i didn't mention the sound bugs, Im glad this happens to other people, I was worried it might be my PC, as it doesn't happen on my laptop. Sometimes i hear breathing everywhere, Strange thing is, This is normally the breath of a 200+ Pinger, i dont know if it's been a coincidence. You just have to run away, to otherside of map, and as long as you don't hear any other breathing, You're fine, then you can run back. -_- No Breath at all, I might have witnessed. I find it strange that sometimes i can hear low breath from 5-10 steps away, but sometimes i run straight into them. =.=

Play with your ping? Pretty sure whatever ping yours is, Mine will be worse. As GR it's not too much of a problem, Because i can normally see/hear ghosts before they get anywhere near me, But other day in a game full of LegionLatina people. I was ironicly using a shovel, I hit a guy 5 times, Blood every time, didn't kill him, He then shot me . His ping was 123... -_-

My ping changes a lot 110-150,, Depending on time of day. I wont QQ on this thread about ping though '=.=

Armor i do not see as a problem on GR / BL, I personally think Knife should be 2 shots. same with other weapons. It's about as easy to kill people with armor, You stab them in head, which will always deal 79 dmg, then slash them, which always finishes them off, Unless they tank it '=.=. I use armor for a few reasons, In TD It's very useful, as it rly does decrease nade damage, And i seem to be a magnet for them -_-. And also, I am normally the only guy on the team who has the balls to defuse, So armor saves my life a lot. :D<3 Armor. Not to mention all the nubs who Team Nade me to try get my Gold M4 -.-

PhanTom are not GM players, They are bad, They're probably fresh from TD, But since all the new items and BL advantages they are all in a sudden 'pro'. I have seen their GM K/ds, Most of them are 1ish. They use as much advantage as they can have. I dont think i've seen a PhanTom w/o a shovel/ Breath down/ armor. And they have low ping!! -_- Most of them live in canada.

    Here's a SS of QQ : :P

Knife spammers are annoying, Especially when you have about 10 ping and this works easily. AKa Colby 'the pro knifer' .. Running about holding left click '=.=.

Another wall of QQ from nooby.. Jaja
  • Turn off or turn down the radio message, download the sound pack that has no sounds (including "Fire in the hole"). That will help a lot. And always think like a ghost.

HAHA! Don't get me started with that Audio glitch, with breathing everywhere. I run FOREVER until the 'issue' wears off. It's annoying...and I hope Z8 can fix the translation in the string of coding. If I stay and fight...I look like a noob because I'm bursting in areas of NO GHOSTS, haha.

    Regarding the Phantom portion:

Xo| I plead the 5th...I really don't like to slander other GM Clans, but fair if I just say I agree with you? haha Although...I do use Noise Down. I'm guilty of that...but I don't use a shovel, so chances of me 1 Shot killing with my melee are far lower. There's always a 2nd chance to kill me :D

    Yep :) Shovels mostly
  • If axe, shovel, breathe and step down are looked down upon, shouldn't ZP weapons, armor, grenade bag and speed defuse also be looked down on?

There's honestly no difference between BL using "cheap" weapons/items and GR using equally unfair items...

You can still hear breath-down ghosts, just not as far away.
