Issues with starting the game client

Attention Mercenaries,

We've received reports of issues launching the game client after the latest content update.
If you encounter an error like "Failed to download version.ini" or "Error, do you want to report", we recommend uninstalling the game and downloading the latest version HERE for a new installation of CrossFire.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

  • Just like I have said before. After every update something goes wrong. The game is still not functioning correctly. Fix it when you have the time.

  • That problem occured many times in the past. Why did the GM not just insert here the solution that is somewhere on the forum is beyond me.

    Solution:
    1: Go to Crossfire directory on your PC and open the file version.ini (with notepad)
    2: Below is the content of the version file of a working CF installemnt. Check if it matches it. If not then replace the content and save.

    [VERSION]
    LatestVersion = 1469
    MinimalVersion= 1401
    PreDownStart = 59
    PreDownEnd = 59
    OwnVersion = 59

    [DOWNLOAD]

    [SERVER]
    COUNT = 1
    IP1 =67.210.208.31
    PORT1 =13008

    [HGW]
    PORT=16666
    SERVER1=67.210.208.32

    [IDCLISTS]
    Count=4
    PreferList =0
    IDCLISTS_1 = "North America"
    IDCLISTS_2 = "Europe"
    IDCLISTS_3 = "LATAM - South"

    There is no warranty that it will work. This solution worked for me twice in the past.

    Other ideas:
    1: You may also just delete the version.ini file and let the patcher redownload it.
    2: Restart your PC using the restart function (not shutdown and then start again). This one fixes alot of problems related to your PC but probably not to the version.ini issue.
