My Career!

Alright So I know this is a pretty random thread, but hey that's why it's titled "Off Topic" right? Anyways, So I am a senior in High School. We have a Morning show, and I am the Director/Anchor/Weatherman on the show. The school has around 2000 students, and my sign off is always "Stay Classy Douglas Freeman", because Douglas Southall Freeman is my school's name. Every time I try to move an inch around the pretty large 2 floor per building (3 buildings) school, I get recognized. I had people stop me and ask me for my autograph. The fame is real haha. We had just recently had a visitor from NBC12 stop by and critique our show. He pointed me out, and long story short, offered me a(n) internship with NBC (NBC is a global leading, broadcasting company), over the summer. He said he personally thinks I will go big places and he has NEVER seen someone so enthusiastic, and so "Prof-Good" for a senior in High School in his 25 years on the job. Now I'm contemplating weather I should accept the internship. Any Feedback? Thanks guys! And Yes that IS me in my profile picture!

If it's something you love doing then go for it. You'll most likely land a job right after graduation if you take the internship. If not, at least it looks good on a resume

Remember that whatever you do, networking is critical. The cliche is correct in that it's not what you know it's who you know (at least in a broad sense of the term).

Having the skill and the contacts is a great way to get a career!

Internships anywhere look good on your resume. It means you're hirable, you're dedicated and you're passionate about working and whatever it is you're pursuing. No one can tell you what to do, but the experience gained by an internship puts you way ahead of the competition. [read: your friends and classmates]

Post Secondary education is still critical though, so I wouldn't throw any opportunities away to attend a good college or university!

Take it.

An internship allows you to have real world experience in a real payng job, you get the chance to build up contacts which is one of the most important elements in the world of jobs (sad but true, it's not what you know it's who you know). That and you build skills, learn new things, get to know more people, get a feel for what that career is like, something solid to put on your C.V/ Resume.

Also one thing to keep in mind, it might help to know people, but it is much more important to worry about who knows you , make your self known early and internships are a great way to start, you meet lots of people that will help you out later in life and provide you with recommendations etc

also a good idea to create a

linkedin profile and a portfolio of some sort no matter what career you decide to get into
