Crossfire is using too much CPU

Hi! My crossfire client is using too much CPU when I look into the task manager it is the only program with such behavior. I've investigated similar posts about the same issue and some say it's because of a virus, Trojan, etc. But guess what I have Avast anti-virus and have performed several scans and it doesn't detect anything wrong. I have closed every unnecessary services or processes and yet the game's performance is awful. I've tried lowering every settings of the game and the game still has FPS drops because of too much CPU usage.

I've even tried disabling unnecessary windows features with no visible improvement.

I have a 2.00ghz CPU, 1gb ram and 1gb video memory.

Please don't tell me it's because of my old hardware because that's bs. I can play Far Cry 2 at 1280x720 30fps stable without that high CPU usage. So why can't I play crossfire at 1024x768 or 800x600? I mean I can play it at 70-100fps but those fps drops are annoying AF and it's because of that high CPU usage.

Please suggest other solutions.

  • It's probably because you got 64 bit and CrossFire is a 32 bit Version, I also got a very high CPU, ist over 70 sometimes 90-95..
  • 1. From what i see until now - this high CPU usage seems to affect only single and dual core CPU's (those are usually older then 9 years) .... and noone find a software fix for that, just upgdade to a quad core CPU will fix-it

    2. Seriously you will need a hardware update anyway, in few months windows 7 will became unsupported version - so you need to use windows 8.1 or widows 10 - and i doubt any of those versions will run smoothly on your actual hardware.

I think this cpu usage has something to do with the new patches because before the last two patches my game was running smoothly and I didn't feel any fps drops. But I don't know exactly why...

My nephew has a win10 PC with 3ghz CPU and 4 GB of ram and 1gb video and he has told me he is suffering the same issue. I am running Windows 7 btw.

Interesting, Yea I heard some people when I'm playing they say they have gaming PC's and even with that kind of hardware the experience fps drops and bad performance at times.
