Here is one of the newest clans made on CF. You can see the guild id at the end of the url.
This means that there are over 48000 clans made in CF. (correct me if i'm wrong) Most of them have more than 1 player in them. Plus all the people without clans.
Sure some people have more than one account. And alot of the clans are not active.
But you get the idea. There are alot of people. -

That's a little skewed since it only registers XFire users, and only XFire users who are allowing their games to be detected, but the graphs are a good representation of the relative numbers of players. -
