Need Guide on Logo Creation...

Would someone be so kind as to either post a short guide on how to create good logos? I'm not talking a basic Logos for Dummies, here. I'd like to see "Logos 400"-level material: tips for really awe-inspiring logos.

If no-one wants a cookie to post a decent guide, please at least post any advice you've found worked for you.
