I get a error saying "failed to download patch file" (I tried to re download CF, still same error)

I was having the same issue a few minutes ago but I just tried it again and it patched and started the game.

^ I started doing some Windows updates since I had nothing else to do and decided to try starting CF one more time and it worked but I think it was just coincidence, it seems more to me like the patch server is limiting traffic and you just have to keep trying until a free spot opens up.

Keep trying it every few minutes, I was having the same problem and it eventually worked for me. It's not even a big patch, I think all I recall seeing patched was some web banner images for the current events.

I just kept trying eventually it will download, but when I did download the patch and the game started all the servers were packed. so it could be traffic like voyager said.
