  • 1.) Have you enabled sound for crossfire from the volume mixer?

You can see this on the bottem right of your desktop, right click the little speaker and go into the options, make sure crossfire is not muted.

NOTE: Your crossfire client must be running whilst doing this

2.) Go into crossfire options and ensure the sound effects box is ticked for "ON" and make sure the sound is at a number higher than 0.

3.) Go to your crossfire directory and make sure you have "SndDrv.dll" - Thats the sound driver for crossfire

4.) Do you have another pair of headsets?
  • I have and i have all of it Could it be that my SndDrv.dll is curpted

Sorry for the delay in response - Yeah it's possible but you said you re-installed the game so i doubt that's the issue however I have uploaded mine:

Make sure you remove the current one from the directory before placing it in. :p
  • Aw, then i'm not sure what the problem is. ._.

Are you 100% sure that the volume is enabled from crossfire options? You can turn the sound off yet still have the radio messages enabled since its a separate thing.
  • Well you can try send in a support ticket, but I don't think it will be much help:

    Best of luck.
  • Can you display a screenshot of your sound settings within the game?

More than likely the game sound is disabled or set at 0.

Kind of sounds like SndDrv.dll is corrupted to me.

Is it possible that your anti-virus is interfering with the installation process, and when you reinstalled crossfire, did you download a new installer from the website?
  • This will reset the settings for the crossfire client.

    1. First make sure your Cross Fire game is shutdown and closed.

    2. Open your "My Documents" folder and find the folder named "Cross Fire".

    3. Inside the Cross Fire folder will be a file named "System.dat"

    4. Rename the "System.dat" file to "System settings original.dat".
Or something of your own choosing. This will force Cross Fire to recreate a
new default "System.dat" file the next time you open the Cross Fire game.
All the Cross Fire game sounds will be enabled by default when the new file
    is created.

If you can not find the "System.dat" file in the "Cross Fire" folder then it is more than likely being considered a hidden system file.

    To enable viewing of hidden system files in Explorer do the following;

    For Windows XP
    1. With Explorer open navigate to the top of the window where you will find the Tools button on the menu bar.
    2. Click on the "Tools" menu button and then click on the "Folder Options" sub context selection. This will open a new "Folder Options" menu window.
    3. At the top of the Folder Options window click on the "View" Tab.
    4. Scroll down and find the section that says "Hidden files and folders" and select the radio button that says "Show hidden files and folders".
    5. Scroll down a bit farther and uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types".
    6. Click on the "Apply" and then click on the "OK" buttons respectively.

To hide the system files again just repeat the process until you get to step 4 and then click the radio button that says "Do not show hidden files and folders". Then continue to step 5 and check the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types". Then click Apply and Ok and you're done.

    For Windows 7
    1. With Explorer open navigate to the top of the window where you will find the "Organize" button on the menu bar.
    2. Click on the "Organize" menu button and then click on the "Folder and search option" sub context selection. This will open a new "Folder Options" menu window.
    3. At the top of the Folder Options window click on the "View" Tab.
    4. Scroll down and find the section that says "Hidden files and folders" and select the radio button that says "Show hidden files, folders, or drives".
    5. Scroll down a bit farther and uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types".
    6. Click on the "Apply" and then click on the "OK" buttons respectively.

To hide the system files again just repeat the process until you get to step 4 and then click the radio button that says "Do not show hidden files, folders, or drives". Then continue to step 5 and check the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types". Then click Apply and Ok and you're done.

Give this a shot and see what happens. Good luck.
  • Jeez guys we should at least rule out the obvious before we start tinkering with files on the computer.... :(
  • Fithshots asked if there was anything else we could think of. That's what I was thinking since it looks like the obvious was pretty much ruled out.

When you reinstall cross fire it doesn't reset the system.dat settings file in my experience unless you delete the file yourself.
  • Finally ive found someone with the same problem. My friends told me to reinstall the game blabla...
Whats wrong: No sound except the kill/multikill sounds and the radio chat in game. Everything is normal in the lobby or game room etc.
The problem appeared after i reinstalled windows. ( Ive installed a slightly different version of windows win7professional => win7professional N ) And now ive got this problem. I tried to reinstall crossfire (2 times). Reinstalled the audio driver. Changed the setting file. Still no sound... And please dont ask me whether i activated the ingame sound. I hate those question as if i was stupid. Gimme an idea what ive missed
