Crossfire won't start

Do you have an anti-virus/firewall running in the background?

If so, chances are that software is blocking Crossfire from starting up (whether it's HGWC/XTrap connections being blocked). I highly recommend uninstalling it, as long as you have some common sense when it comes to the Internet, (don't pirate movies, games, click malicious advertisements, etc.) otherwise try and add it to your anti-virus software's "Exceptions" list, or try to disable the software temporarily.
