Fps in Smoke

Recently my fps drops from constant 220+ to 20-50 by staying in a single smoke with nobody else around. Is there a reason for this? I know smoke increases lag, but why is it doing this do me to such a great extent?

I think its a gpu issue,i also faced this problem only once ......

Your gpu got a spicific memory. You need more memory to be in smoke. The rest does not need more than the cpu to work well. My fps goes from 230 to 225 in smoke but I have got 4 gig gpu memory. If you only have got like 500MB to 1GB gpu memory that might be the problem.
