Failed to download version.ini

I just downloaded CF Mirror 1, and i went to start the game, and a small box appeared saying: "Failed to download version.ini". Any tips? thanks.

Go to the directory where you have installed Crossfire, Normally

C:\Program Files\Z8Games\CrossFire

You can try; Both or one of these solutions.

1) Delete Version.ini file, and start CF again normally.

2) Manually run the patcher_cf

I have the same problem well i started off with the ''File was changed or Forged..blabla'' so i just changed the default location and that was fixed... now i have the Version.ini error, i've tried the following:

(Mirror 1)

Disk clean up
Anti-virus off
Delete all CF related files (Documents and Program Files)
Uninstall - Reinstall
Delete Version.ini file
Manually run patcher_cf

im currently installing on a different drive = my ipod (god knows i've tried.) (Mirror 3) = Failed.... *sob

uninstalled the game and reinstalled it ,then i did what u said about version.ini and running updater manually but yet no effect ...... any other solutions ???

i know exactly how to fix this. .ini is the base of all updates crossfire does (sort of speech) so when you try to instal a patch you need the .ini to run. Problem is, sometimes firewalls consider .ini as something bad, so you only need to deactivate your firewall in your antivirus and it should work! I installed avg and when i ran crossfire it asked me if i wanted to use .ini in all networks, i answered "only safe ones" but the recommended setting was "all". So i figured if i downed the AVG while i play it should work. and it did..no problem. Hope i helped ;D
