Hmmm... I don´t think it´s comodo (I use it too), but it´s better to add the hole crossfire-game (-installation) folder to the exception list instead of turning it off.
For anti-virus: -even if you don´t have installed any real-time-protection (anti-virus,spybot,malewarbytes,...etc.) - there could be windows own "Windows Defender" active...can´t say if that can cause such a problem - no problems at my side.
The error-code let me guess your error is caused by a problem with your installation of Microsoft Visual C++ (2005?, 2008?, 2010? - I don´t know which of these you have installed)!

got loads hmm i have
microsoft visual c++ 2005 redistributable
microsoft visual c++resdistributable x64
microsoft visual c++2008 x64

microsoft visual c++2008 x 86
microsoft visual c++2008 x 86
microsoft visual c++2010 x 64
microsoft visual c++2010 x 86
is there a way to fix these? can u reinstall these and i havent downloaded anything recently its just after this cf patch other games work fine -

Yeah I am really not sure about that...it was only a guess...the error-code brought me there...but every pc is different...so...
Reinstalling these is really tricky , cause they are mostly installed by software/games - and a reinstall can lead into the problem that these programs don´t find the right files after a reinstall...and you would have to reinstall them...
But maybe one try:
I see there is the 2005 version installed - so maybe this helps http://www.microsoft.com/de-de/download/details.aspx?id=26347 < select your language there
could be worth a try (and that shouldn´t change the installation of your files).
You are running a 64bit version of the OS so you should download + install both!!! versions x64+x86.
Download > restart pc > install > restart pc
Feel free to try it - don't blame me if it don't help

EDIT:
...and before going to much into the depths of your pc - the "common solution": a redownload of CF and a fresh installation (-cleaning old files before) solve most of the problems related to Crossfire... -

You can look in the event viewer - maybe there is a entry/error displayed at the time you tried to start CF (-hopefully with more information about the problem).
> right-click on computer and select "Manage." > navigate to System Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application. Click "Application to view the list of events.
...maybe you can find more hints in your case about the problem this way...I have no more ideas atm... -
kay ive had a look and theres 3 errors from when i tried to start cf
activation context generation failed for 'C:/Program files (x86)/z8games/Crossfire/crossfire.exe.' error in manifest or policy file 'C:/windows/WinSxS/manifests/86_policy.8.0.microsoft.vc80.atl_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_4de39e0d118f2d3f.manifest' on line 0. invalid xml syntax

...and here we are - that leads to Microsoft Visual C++ ...

- and not without a reason...
Somehow your OS is screwed - maybe a deinstallation of a software caused it or there are other bigger problems.
The information leads to the 2005 C++ package, if you wanna try something before going to make a hole reinstall of your OS you can try to reinstall (download-uninstall-restart your pc!-cleaning-reinstall-restart yout pc!) that package x86+x64 with all updates/patches available from Microsoft.
But again - I don't know which software on your pc beside CF need that package too - so I really can't say if new problem will occur after that...and a fresh install of CF can also help after this...
So, making it not too expensive for you - cause I am paid by hours - I would say I am out for now...
