Sorry, this application can not be run on a virtual machine error.

Hello everybody,

I get this error every time I start up Crossfire. I used to play crossfire almost everyday in 2010-2012... I played with my friends and I never had troubles starting up, no disconnections or lags. Then I took a break to focus on school and returned and Crossfire just stopped working, whenever I started it up it would not start up anything and after 3 start ups give me a weird error. I reinstalled it 12 times and then gave up all hopes on ever playing CF with my friends again. Today we decided to give CF another try to I downloaded it again and started it up and it gave me this error:

Sorry, this application can not be run on a virtual machine.

I assume it's referring to my video card since it's a virtual one, but I have had this one since late 2010 and crossfire worked on this pc then, so I was hoping you guys could help me play it again.I tried these:

But I don't have either register...

Thanks in advance..

  • No video card is "virtual" on a machine. It's either running off a chipset, an APU, or a dedicated GPU. Running on a "virtual" machine means it's most likely saved in another location that's not on your machine, like a network drive, or an external drive for that matter. Cross Fire should start up normally. If it doesn't, try running it as administrator(Assuming you're running off an OS of Windows Vista, 7, or 8). If that fails, please go into the Cross Fire directory (C:\Program Files(x86)\Z8Games) and go execute the file patcher_cf. If you're running on a Windows 8 OS, it's located on C:\Program Files\Z8Games. If the problem still occurs, uninstall Cross Fire, restart your computer. Check to make sure that Cross Fire is not located on the computer. As well as inside the Z8Games folder. If there is no Z8Games folder, it's not on your hard drive. Re-install it, but pay attention to the drive you're saving the files to when asked. Install it, then restart your computer. Cross Fire should work fine now.
