CrossFire not starting

Hello,
I have downloaded the CrossFire client and every time I click "START", the whole process shuts down. Not 1 thing happens from here and I'm unsure how to fix this. I know my computer is of reasonable standard to pay the game as I always used to play it on this exact PC, smoothly.

I've attempted some solutions such as the obvious like reinstalling, redownloading and then reinstalling, turning off my antivirus and firewall, changing the clients compatibility, ran in admin mode. Not 1 thing has worked as of yet!

Some technical info you might need:
Windows 7 Ultimate SP2, Dell Inspiron 580, 4GB RAM.

Anything else required, please ask. Thank you very much.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate SP2 ? ? ? - there is no - and there will be no SP2 for win7!
...maybe it´s a problem with your "version" of win7...

You don´t have to proof something...but again - there is no SP2 - now and in the future...
You only "proof" that you don´t run a "official version" of your OS - maybe you have installed something that named your OS like that - but that´s not from Microsoft - whatever it is...

Post the screenshot of the entire screen of that window.
  • Sorry what I meant to say was, post a screenshot of your System Information. That whole window.

    Specifically, the System Summary page.

I recommend doing Alt+Prt Sc to have it take a screenshot of just the window and not your entire desktop.

Second edit: Please understand that it is very iffy right now that you're claiming to have a Windows 7 SP2.

I can freely admit that my Windows isn't genuine. If that's an issue, then I'm sorry. I only came here to request help to fix my CrossFire.

Back to the topic, the forum doesn't allow me to use attachments so I'll have to persist with my 3rd party screen capture - sorry. But here is the page you requested: http://puu.sh/4o6Ek.png
Thank you very much for attempting to help me, already doing a better job than the actual ticket support here ;)
  • Okay at least we got that out of the way. I'm not trying to "out" you for not having a genuine copy of windows, unfortunately I cannot help in certain aspects because I don't have a computer with a non-legit copy of windows lying around to help test stuff out/ replicate your problem.

    But let's continue on.

Umm the next thing is to ask you to monitor your task manager, specifically the process tab, for certain process's that pop up when CrossFire is initialized.
I'll get back to you soon on the specifics. I'm away from my computer atm.

I'm pretty sure my copy of Windows isn't the issue though since I've ran CrossFire on it before with no issue.
I just monitored my task manager on the process, services and applications tabs individually. Basically, as soon as I hit the "START" button, they all shut off within half a second instantly.
  • Okay I'm back.

Before I get into the procedure, can you elaborate further "they all shut off within half a second instantly"?

So at the start. When you click the desktop shortcut the process: crossfirePT_launcher.exe opens up.
It would look like this on screen:
    2nsyy5c.png

Then after you press START a few things happen.
    crossfirePT_launcher.exe closes.

patcher_cf.exe opens, runs then closes. You will note that because the patching window would pop up run a quick check then close. This is what that window looks like:
    2884mf5.png

After that, Hacking GateWay Client (it may be noted as HGWC.exe) opens up, you will note that because the HGW game watcher window runs and does a "12 step" check. Then it runs as a background process throughout your entire session.
The window that does the initial check after the patcher would look like this:
    23wr335.png

After that the game opens up and you'll be brought into the login screen.
  • What you mean with "they all shut off within half a second instantly" ?

Only to make it clear - the normal CF starting sequence of the processes in the task-manager is like that:
-after you start CF with the desktop icon-

    1. CF_G4box.exe - after hitting "START" the window and the process disappear
    2. patcher_cf.exe - starts (only for a sec. if there is no update) and update if needed - pop-up and process disappear
    3. HGW.exe - should start loading until step 12 = pop-up window disappear, process still running (XTrap-check starts and update itself if needed - small pop-up disappear after a sec. if there is no update)
    4. crossfire.exe - starts
    5. XTrap.xt - starts (maybe you can't see it cause of the theme change of the OS)

= if all goes fine the login screen appear after finishing loading

    edit> just see one_9 was faster...and with pictures.. :( .... XD

It doesn't get past the first step. As I open the client, and click Start, not 1 of the other processes as mentioned even start in the task manager. There's no sign of anything else doing so.
  • Idk...where´s the problem...something seems to block the .exe´s from executing - or there are missing some files in your OS installation.

Instead of deactivating your anti-virus you should add all the .exe´s from crossfire - better the hole folder to the exception list of it - same for ALL your real time protection software like Spybot, Windows Defender, etc. ...

Maybe try to deactivate UAC temporary - if that is activated on your PC.

I guess you could suggest that I may have to completely reinstall my OS?

I could but I wouldn´t suggest it, since I don´t know what the problem is in your case.
Without any error message from CF or your OS I really don´t know.

I gave you some hints in my last post...

Also you can look in the event viewer of your OS - and look for the time when you have tried to start the game (or instantly after a CF-starting try) - maybe their is an entry (warning/error) or a hint with more information about the problem:
    > Event Viewer > Windows logs > Application and/or System.
