Returning player getting black screen but hear sound

My problem is that I'm getting a black screen after i get past the Loading Map screen.

I log into the game just fine, I find a server, join a game, then once the loading bar of the map gets to about 15%, my screen turns black. The thing is, I hear all gun shots, I hear "fire in the hole", I hear my own gun shooting, but the screen is just black.

So then I have to Ctl+Alt+Dlt out and end the game that way. Anyone ever experience this and have a solution?

My computer is fairly old, Im running on Windows XP, but I used to be able to play this game over a year ago with minimal lag even though my computer is old. The only thing I thought could be an issue is that since then I got an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 graphics card. I know It's a pretty old garbage card but I thought it was going to make a difference.

Anyway if anyone has a solution I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Anyone have any idea?

Windows XP, 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, Direct X 9.0, XFire, Net Framework 4.0, Service pack 3.

I have all of this, any reason why i cant play the game?
  • Im guessing this error is exclusive to Windows XP, i wouldn’t be surprised as its so out-dated. I tried to re-produce this error with my other machines and after 6 hours of testing nothing happened. It took me The first 2 hours for it to happen on XP. Once the message appeared and the screen went black, each and every map I played was exactly like this. Below is a screenshot of what my game looks like when the error occurs, is this what yours looks like too?

  • You get more than I do. Once I load out of the Map Screen, it turns completely black. I get nothing. I hear everything thats going on through my speakers, but my monitor just turns black.

I haven't played CF in maybe over a year, but I used to play regularly using the same desktop I'm on now. It's just weird to me. Game works perfectly fine up until it loads up the map. I guess it's time to upgrade.
  • Creative_S - I know you are an experienced player...so I guess you have tried everything already...

Looks like a problem with the 3D-rendering-engine...loading the textures...
    -have you tried to update/downgrade your garphic-card-driver ? - also DirectX ?
-checked/changed the settings for them ?
-lowered/changed the ingame video-settings ? - maybe a problem with high textures or other settings and the graphic card

If I have more ideas I will edit this...

    Yup.

I've done everything no hope though. Everything is up to date, at the moment its only happening on Windows XP as far as i know.

Dont worry about it, i have enough patience for a real fix.

I've noticed if you go into the training camp (tutorial) you get this error alot less often. That and ending "explorer.exe" and running the game from taskmanager.
  • Ive figured my problem out. I forgot that I factory restored my computer a while back so I had to re download the driver for my GeForce FX 5200 video card. Once I did that it worked. I still lag more then I should but atleast i can play.
