When I click start to open the game, nothing pops up
Whenever I open the game to the screen where I have to press start and it shows the announcements and such, I click start and NOTHING pops up. I've waited up to an hour just on my computer waiting for it, but nothing happens. In the windows task manager, it shows in the processes that crossfire, well isn't up. I haven't played since march 2013, but I'd like to get back into the game. Is this a frequent problem? Thanks for the help in advance.

At the "moment" they have many server problems which causes many different errors...hard to say atm which side cause a specific error...
Maybe your firewall/anti-virus soft blocks something belonging to CF...like the crossfire.exe, HGWC.exe. etc. or the patcher_cf.exe.
Try to run the patcher_cf.exe from the game folder with a double-click, you should see that it pops up - at least only for a sec.,if it´s up to date....if not - i guess its blocked.
Another try is to set it to xp serv pack 3 compatibility mode...
...or maybe this * had helped in some cases * > :

I already saw the thread you posted before, and it made my computer crash.
I've tried everything you've told me, but nothing works. It also stops the process right after I click start. According to the windows task manager at least. my friend can also access crossfire fine, but I can't. -

Sorry to hear - Idk...sounds strange if not your firewall/anti-virus soft blocks it - maybe you have installed some other security or realtime protection on your PC...something like spybot or whatever - ? - blocking processes...try to check...and try to run CF as admininstrator...
If changing the DEP settings crash your PC it looks like a 3rd party software make some trouble...this shouldn´t happen! - or at least you have a hardware problem...cause DEP belongs to the memory management - only for example if you have a bab RAM could cause a crash...
I can´t look into your PC...take a look at your system drivers and graphic card+driver...update if possible.
Maybe download CCleaner (portable version without the need to install also available - just google for it) and go through the normal and registry cleaning process (- make a system save point before!!! - so you can revert!).
I guess its an older PC ? - or ?...so google for it how to optimize your OS...cleaning/stopping useless system services/defragmentation/etc. much more...not enough time to type more...
normally i don´t advice a fresh download and fresh install with every little problem...but in your case maybe your CF installation is corrupt...maybe you should try that in 1st place and make a cleaning before you reinstall... Good luck!
