Processor help

I've had my computer roughly a year now it worked fine for months,But for the past few months I've been getting mousebugs. I have tried 2-3 mouses, I have tried different USB ports, I've reinstalled multiple times, I've cleaned my computer the best I can I've also ran McAfee scans. Now its just getting worse its also making my ping spike from 50 to 100-300, Making my fps drop from 150-200 to 10-30 at random times.. I checked in my task manager and my CPU says 100% when I am running crossfire, I think that is a bit too much it never used to be that high. I am just curious is my processor dying? Or is there something else wrong? My processor spec is AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 Processor 2.80 GHz
I have also tried lowering the priority/affinity in task manager and I have restarted and unplugged my router a few times, I have 100 MB speed.

If anyone has any suggestions or solutions it would be really appreciated,Thanks.

  • Are you using a laptop or a desktop? Your graphics might be outdated as well. 100% CPU isn't that good since it's using all it's resources but it's normal if a lot of programs are running. Your ping is your latency. Processor has nothing to do with that. Your FPS is 70% graphics, 30% processor. So it's more probably of your graphics than your processor. How many cores is your processor?

I am using a desktop, My graphics card is fairly new actually, I had upgraded from my integrated nividia to a ATI Radeon HD 5400 series. My processor is a dual core.

I believe it has something to do with Crossfire, Because I can run other games like LoL,WoW,Cs;go with no lag or issues but when I launch crossfire is when the issue starts. Any suggestions?
  • Long time ago same problem running under wind xp on amd cpu @ 1,8 Ghz-1gb ram,
Latest solution i apply was to reinstall windows xp + install latest directx + PC drivers and download latest cf version, seems like some invalid entry to win registry and other programs uninstalled left a lot on unsused .dll and other files that was interference with some games.

that is most unwanted and ultimate solution because of time consuming :(, also if u make a clean windows install i sugest you to try make a disk c: backup using a dedicated program to do that - is more easy after that to restore your windows to initial state then to install-it again when you will need to do.

I was thinking about reinstalling windows but because I have http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000/ coming in a month I didn't really care, I just wanted to see if I could find out whats wrong and I did. I talked to the guy from myanticheat ( not sure of his name) And he had told me that 8-10% of the player base with dual cores like myself are having the issue and he is working on it. Nothing I can do.
  • Try disable/close all other background programs (skype, xfire, yahoo messanger, torrent clients) and antivirus program & firewall - see if help :)

I've tried that too doesn't fix much, I found my problem tho I talked to the guy from myanticheat and he explained that 8-10% of the player base is having a issue with dual core processors so nothing I can really do.

You can try to overclock your processors

if you do overclock make sure you have good ventilation and/or an aftermarket heatsink.
