Have you tried removing CF completely from your CPU and redownloading and running a clean reinstallation?

That's the only thing I could come up with. If all else fails you can always contact Support about Cross Fire under the Tech. Support area, and you should get your answer some time from them. c: -

I uninstalled, deleted Z8Games folder completely, reinstalled. No go
I even tried replacing version.ini (actually if you could upload yours for me, maybe that would help :P EDIT: thx shadow, gonna try downloading that. i dont think it will work but thx anyway :P). But yeah...
Ppl with this error say its their internet, but my internet is fine. Maybe it's because I plugged in my ethernet cable so that I was using wifi and wired net at the same time? But I unplugged my ethernet so I'm just on wifi again, and it still doesn't work. I've restarted the internet (even by hard switch) several times, to no avail.
Oh well, at least I don't have too much time to play CF anyway. will suck if i cant make csn cus of this dumb error
EDIT2: yep, just replaced it with shadows file and still didnt work. thx for trying

Have you placed Crossfire on the exceptions list for your anti-virus and/or firewall?
If you haven't done that, well try doing a clean reinstall this time, where you disable your anti-virus/firewall while downloading and installing Crossfire, then restarting your computer and re-enabling protection. After that place the Z8Games folder in C: on the exception((s) list.
And moving this to Tech Support as that is the proper place. -
Yeah I've put it on the exceptions list on Norton (I dont use AVG), but thats never been an issue

And these kind of threads just die in tech support; was hoping that someone in barracks would know about this kind of thing, but i guess that didnt work out either lol -
So you don't have any other antivirus on your pc? As I had that problem i read somewhere that using CCleaner would help, therefore I used it, dunno tho' if disabling antivirus or CCleaner helped to save this. You might give it a shot and simply run CCleaner, good luck

The #15 post might be interesting.
Or try to download all these:

EDIT: found this by googling1. Please make sure that your antivirus/firewall isn't blocking Crossfire.exe.
2. Restart the computer just in case.
3. Be sure to install the most recent Microsoft.NET Framework. Re-download if you already have it, just to make sure it is up to date. This should solve more problems with the .exe.
4. Go to the game folder and try to launch the "patcher_cf.exe" file manually to skip the launcher program.
5. If you are using Windows Vista/7, please be sure that the following files, "crossfire.exe" and "patcher_cf.exe," are all running as an administrator. (Right click on the file and go to "Properties" and then click "Compatibility" tab.)
6. Change the "crossfire.exe" and "patcher_cf.exe" compatibility mode to WindowsXP SP2 and disable "scaling on high DPI settings." You should also disable visual themes and desktop composition if that does not work.(These options are located in the "Compatibility" tab in the properties files.)
7. Re-install again. It is also possible that your initial download was corrupted at which point you may want to try a download manager to get the file and try again. -
Let's see here, clean install, allow CF related programs through your firewall(NEVER TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL),add CF to your antivirus exceptions list(NEVER TURN OFF YOUR ANTIVIRUS AS WELL), let's see what else... Oh check your connection, try using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, make certain that if your bridging your wired and wireless connections that both are connected or that you turn off the bridge when you don't want to use it. If none of the above work, try contacting your Internet Service Provider. They may have blocked certain IPs recently, thereby unknowingly prevent you or anyone else on their service from playing CF.

yeah, so im pretty sure its my ethernet (wired) connection thats causing the problems. i had no issues on wireless before i connected the cable. now even when i unplug the cable, i get the error.
EDIT: Yes, this^ is the issue. Can a mod close this thread so that discussion moves to this new thread http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?p=3135176#post3135176 instead?
