How do you regain your skill after quitting for long?

Well guys, I don't think any of you remember me (like I was somebody around here, so how could you remember), but pie is back once again, and it seems I can't play at the same rate I played a few months ago.

How do you regain your skill in FPS's after quitting for long? I've played too much DotA to remember how to even put the crosshair on somebody, and even if 2.5KDR in a week SnD (I aimed for 2.0 in my stats, then all of a sudden I've quit o.o) Compound (Triton Badge was first introduced) it seems I can't even get a 1.5 anymore. I mean, I can't quickscope for **** either anymore, and every weapon I have has the recoil hitting the ceiling so I can't get used to them either... And what's up with all these new weapons...?

That weird looking M4A1 has even less recoil than the normal version o.o... What's with that new bolt sniper that one hits even in the legs?

Recoil of guns haven't changed (supposedly)
No sniper 1 hits in the legs
They add dumb zp weapons every time they patch

Play for a while and you'll regain your skill.
  • You keep playing till you get your game sense back.
  • Well I play Unreal Tournament whenever I quiet fps games for a long time because it is a really fast game. If you can aim in UT you can aim in any other game too.

Anyway I would make a 4vs4 Egypt room and keep playing there. It is a fast map and it will get you back into the game.
  • I think I'll go with your idea BadMonkey but I'll go SnD instead with 4 people (less people, less anxiety for me).

Usually when there are less players I play a lot better/aim a lot better.
  • Choose your gun and start practicing with it.

Think what your doing and make sure you don't loose control of your aim. Watch others that are better than you and pick up some easy tips.

Also read some of the guides in the guide section. Some are very useful in learning gamesense and how to aim logically.
  • This is the story of life. However I find that I'm able to maintain 2 KDR, (which I consider bad). Strangely I played this weekend and was 1.8 in TDM, yet 2.6 in SND.

What I find useful is Escape Mode. This Mode is very easy and gives you a chance to regain a feel for weapons and still maintain your KDR. It helps me, and I've been very inactive the past few months.
  • Thanks all for the replies. I've checked the guides and will start playing in 4v4 SnD's until I "regain" my "skill".
  • its just a game, not rocket science....just go play and have fun. your skill will come back with time. you don't need to do anything out of the ordinary.
  • CrossFire isn't any more fun since like... Years ago. So now it's all about me trying my best to fill up my own achievements like 2.0 KDR, 2.5KDR, 3KDR and getting in good clans etc.

The only thing that keeps me in here is exactly this and some friends (if they wouldn't be here, bye CrossFire).

Most games for me are not fun anymore (online ones especially), only single player games are actually fun for me.
  • your friends... are they really that important for you? Do you know their names? Do you have their e-mails? Have you ever heard their voices on Teamspeak?

Today I realized that friends are a bad reason to stay at a game.
  • You keep playing till you get your game sense back

as my brother say (in EGYPT WE ALL BROTHERS)
  • I think Alaska 5 vs 5 or 6 vs 6.
When I do bad, I join Alaska and magically I recover my normal skills (still noob).
  • Not sure, I quit for around 8 months, and when I came back I was actually better, before getting about 1.5 kdr per day in SND and GM, and after getting atleast 2.3, around the same kills also
  • I've recently had to regain my "feel" for aiming in this game after a long school year. it took a few days to fully flick relatively close to where one intended to. So i would recommend playing with your sensitivity and testing it out in the shooting range. try to flick to the multiple targets with relative consistency. then when shooting your shots, try to add a slight "drag down" in your bursts. In terms of staying alive longer, make sure you never stand still, try different strafes, shoot in between strafes when your character "stops" for perfect accuracy, master that, and lastly just have fun.

    http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?t=164351

This was when Triton was first introduced (Compound SnD). I've played for 2 weeks before Triton and all of a sudden when I started playing SnD (which I never did in those 2 weeks), I've got to that KD/R (when before that I would get sucky KDR, I had 20k/15k in total at the time, yet my KDR in SnD was raising like mad).

What I mean by this? You and me, are two weirdos that get skills by quitting the game XD, only that this time I wasn't as lucky as before and now I suck instead.

Well, thank you for reminding this. Now my pride (which I have in games, I'm a weirdo) cannot be crushed anymore.

This is another good idea, I'll try out the Shooting Range, thanks guys.

Actually, it's only one friend and it's a she, yep I know her name, her e-mail, I did hear her voice, I even know her address perfectly and I know her account details (tho I never use it). And yeah she's quite important to me, so it's not that much of a bad reason for me. She was my clan leader after all and we both made that clan together (now it's dead, but it's because I've quit).

Don't forget I said "achievements" keep me in the game too.

Well then I have another question for you, is Crossfire really that bad? If you stay here then there should be something good about this game. becasue those achievements and personal goals can be reached in other games too.

now about your friend, maybe you could introduce her into other games. I don't know her but if she is a typical girl then she should enjoy rainbow six vegas 2. You can change the clothes and other details of your character and many girls I know enjoy that. Maybe 75% of all the girls I know enjoy playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
  • Hmmm, let's say CrossFire is one of those easy FPS's (and free) that there are on the Internet. Only raw aiming, awareness of the map and guns can win you pubs. The "good" about this game is also that it's easy to make yourself a "name", destroying people in pubs for me is pretty "fun", like I did a few months ago. I always wanted to make montages with me destroying major clans in the game (like, I won 3 pubs alone against ROMANIA and vs BlackArmy*RO two of them, I'm also Romanian, so even better), but I never had the chance to have such a good computer to make videos.

Let's also say that I've played CrossFire enough and I know how to play it, changing game means that I need to learn again, which for me, is pretty annoying. You know why I've started all of a sudden? Well, she messaged me and told me she started playing again, I also wanted to play an FPS two days ago, and I didn't know what to play because all that complexity means that I need to learn some more and I don't have a good computer at the moment.

My achievements right now are, M4-C or M4-Crystal (one of these), M4-Silver, Axe (I have to find a new way to get perm axe without ZP, is it possible?), AK-Silver (maybe, I'll think about it), 2.0 KD/R -> 2.5 KD/R -> 3.0 KD/R and of course this will be made on SnD, 3 or 4 KD/R on GM and making a clan from scratch.

And no, she's not the type to start a new FPS game either, plus she wouldn't like that even with all the clothes change, she doesn't like 3rd person views and she won't ever give money for a game (at least that's how I know her, she might do it).
  • Well I play Unreal Tournament whenever I quiet fps games for a long time because it is a really fast game. If you can aim in UT you can aim in any other game too.

This pretty much sums it up. Anything Quake Arena styled should do the trick...but you should play instagib games, since those actually deal more with aim then any other game type.

    Quake Arena
    UT 2004
    Xonotic (Free/Open Source)
    Cube 2 : Sauerbraten (Free/Open Source)

In this case she will probably not like vegas 2, vegas 2 is more tactical.

Anyway, have you tried counter strike source? It's kinda like crossfire expect that it doesn't s*cks. I don't know if you noticed it but a lot of weird things happen in crossfire. Like you shot your enemy but the shot doesn't gets counted because of lag or simply because the reg system is weird. Those kind of things don't happen in counter strike. Anyway it's up to you, I don't want to force those things your throat.

Yes this is a good thing about games without dedicated servers, you can make yourself a name. In games like counter strike or unreal tournament people don't know you unless you play in tournaments but those require a lot of time.

Your computer doesn't has to be that fast to make good montage. Just save the replay in the end and then record them with fraps as a video. But it will probably take like 1 hour to make those videos in Sony Vegas.

Or you could just send the replays to me and I can edit them for you. I am not a pro in video editing but I know the basics.

my dear :), if you don't try new things you will never find good things. Life is way more enjoyable when you try new things. I tried Battlefield some months ago. I never really liked their games but I played it for a few weeks and now I am really good at it.

I was really disappointed in Team Fortress 2 because it was really different then the originally Team Fortress which I really liked but I played it more and more and I start to enjoy it.

There might be a lot of games you enjoy but when you don't try them you will miss all the fun.

well this is how I started with Bad Company 2, friend messaged me and told me that he needs a healer lol.

Well, those achievements you have set for yourself are not that easy to reach. I think there is no way to get the axe without ZP and I think it is also not that easy to get a m4 crystal. I have like 11 ribbons and I think 25 are needed.

Vegas 2 is a first person shooter you can only see over the shoulder when you hide behind a wall. Did she pay for zp? Becuase zp is way more expensive then buying new games. Vegas 2 costs like 6€ and css can be found for 6€ too. But both games could be pirated too.
  • She's a ZP Junkie. She can't live without ZP and has Kriss, M4 Silver, AK Gold, AK Silver and other weapons that you can't get that easily. She loves Zombie Modes too.

She's a girl, so obviously, if she has ZP she'll use STAR (which she does).

Of course, I try new games lol, I'm a DotA player and I also play LoL (I have 2.1k ELO there) and also tried Smite (I have some problems with using ultimates there, press 4 = instacrash). I did try HoN but disliked it because it seems even if my computer should run it perfectly it does exactly the opposite, it runs like **** and without spell effects at max I don't understand much of what's going on (even as a DotA player, at least there it wasn't that hard to see what spells were thrown). Besides this, I played AVA (isn't this like a copy of CoD? 4.0 KDR on normal server, it's too easy), Combat Arms (had 1.5 KDR, I quit because of hackers, also computer sucked at the time) and other FPS's that I forgot the name. Oh yeah, I did try TF2, I didn't like it, I know it is somewhat like UT (which I was pretty mediocre at, played 1999 and 2003 versions), but even so, because it's too coloured sometimes from the chaos I don't understand **** anymore, it's also dedicated servers

Also, about replays, I disliked replays a few months ago and I still dislike them (did they change anything?). They're pretty bland and the movements look robotic like. No killstreaks (if I remember well) and the way the camera moves pretty much sucks, it wouldn't look interesting (also, pretty hard finding clan pubs >.>).

Also, I want to buy ZP, around 30k or so, what do you think I should buy with ZP? I don't want things like bulletproof or another character, I'd like to buy weapons mostly, what do you recommend and what has higher chances on crates?

She would never waste money on games but buys a lot of ZP? Well lol I thinks those kind of gamers are the worst gamers :D. I don't like this whole concept. Buying ZP to get the best items and then killing people who don't have good items. I rather play some games were everybody has the same items.

You must be a hardcore gamer if you really play those games :) My friend invite me to World of Warcraft but it was to chaotic for me. I rather play my shooters or beat em ups. I don't have to study those games like you have to do in those rollplay games.

Well the only mmorpg I play is Pocket Legends on my Android, but only for a short time.

Ohh no dude, why are you doing this? Do you know why those games are for free? Those games are so bad no body would pay for them. That's why they make it free to play. This way they can get people into their game and once their are addicted to it they add the pay content. And whenever someone complains about the game they use their "this is a free game so be thankful" excuse.

You should really try some pay2play games, those games don't even come close to Call of Duty, Counter Strike or Battlefield. Also they are mostly hack free because people that hack get permanent ban and have to re buy their game to play online again.

I know what you mean, I didn't understand what I was doing when I first started with it too but once you figure it out it is fun. I still prefer TF1 but 2 is not bad. I think TF1 is more like a single player game while in TF2 you play more in teams.

Why did you stop at 2003? You should at least try UT2k4, I think it is the best UT with all it's mods. UT3 could be good but they messed it up.

Well so people buy hundreds of crates and win nothing, I'd be careful with zp.
  • You don't.

You get out and do something meaningful.
  • Yeah, like post an useless reply like this. Good idea.

I also find that weird, but she did tell me she isn't in trying other FPS games. D: I don't mind, the weapon does not make you, but your skill. I don't mind anybody using SPOP/STAR, DSR, Kriss/M12s, SL etc. It's not like headshots are any different from player to player ^^.

Hehe, "hardcore gamer", I don't know, MOBA's (Not MMORPG's, those aren't MMORPG's) are quite hard indeed, but I don't think I can see myself as a "hardcore gamer", only as a pro (indeed, I think I am at MOBA's of any type, Aeon of Strife was the father of DotA, but DotA was the succesful son, not the father, every MOBA "copies" DotA slightly, if you're good at DotA you're good at every other MOBA) at these type of games. DotA is an addon map on Warcraft 3 btw, not WoW. I can say I'm a fast learner, but also, I'm easy to "**** off", I'll quit a game instantly if something does not fit my book.

Of course, I know that, I did pay for CA and CF, but never for AVA (too easy with normal equip). I've never bought a game, never, and I don't think this will ever change for me.

I meant online, not playing Single Player, I did play UT2004 and other UT's (I don't really remember what else I pirated).

Well, I'll get some GP and EXP+ first then a ****load of crates.
  • To be honest, I play better if I quit CF for a while.

Well... I would like to meet someone like her in real life. I want to talk to people like that and find out why there are like that because I can't understand it.

I have a few guys in my clan who do the same. Before the summer sales there was another sale and I bought a extra copy of counter strike source for my friend because he had only a pirated version. I wanted to send it to him but he had also bought it :/ Well I went online and asked the 20 guys that was online in my clan if they would like to have a free copy of css and non of them wanted it.

I think this is really weird. Most of the Crossfire players only play crossfire or other sh*tty free2play games that are worse then Crossfire.

I ended sending that game to a guy on 4chan in one of those steam begging threads.

Well yes I really don't mind them too because most of the people who buy them don't have skills anyway. I can easily explain this to you, someone who has skills is happy and he doesn't needs more because he is already winning but someone who has no skills is unhappy and will try anything to win. He either buys zp weapons or uses hacks. This is why most of the people who use those weapons are bad, but they are deadly in the hand of a real pro.

This might be the reason why your not playing new games. You start them, you don't like them and leave but maybe you will like them if you play it some more :)

I think it will change. I was like you too, either my parents bought my games or I pirated them from the internet but now since I earn my own money I gladly spend money on games. I think it is a good feeling to buy games, because it feels like you really deserved them. But to be fair, it's a really bad feeling when you pay to much like you have to do in BF3 or MW3.
  • would you care to explain?

    It's simple.

If I keep playing Cross Fire, my skill and accuracy will decrease as I play. If I take a break for like 2-3 days and come back, my accuracy gets way better.

I don't do/have homeworks, and I rarely study for school.
