Notice that the 416 is the successor of the XM8.
Inter alia its also a replacement of the m16 and m4a1.
At least you´ve to know that the US-Army made a test with the HK416, xm8 and the m4a1
to prevent the extension of the m4 procurement.

The FN Scar Light and the HK416 were tested against each other to see which one would be the more suitable replacement for the M16/M4. They both performer almost identical, but the Scar lost due its rail system. The HK416 has a similar rail system as the M16/M4 has, allowing it to use the same M203 grenade launchers and Remington 870 Masterkey as the M16/M4, making it more cost efficient. -
