Laptops which have a good enough specification for a decent level of gaming generally get the job done whilst doing college work. Save up and get a Macbook Pro is my suggestion. I did and it's great for university... good battery, good OS, slim form factor and a great backlit keyboard. -

Like I said under 1k with software so what would you recommend? And Macs are out of question I guess...
