Crossfire hackers database

Is there some sort of unofficial list with cheaters? If not, is there a point in making one? Like a hall of shame or something.

EDIT: I am not referring to those idiotic lists in clan forums. I'm talking about something more professional, where you can submit your reports along with .cfr's date of report etc. Something more dynamic, and more community-sided.. Not sure if you get the idea

  • You can't post IGN of hackers on the forum, so even if there is one (it's unlikely), no one could tell you without his post getting removed.
  • The rules dont allow that ..
Edit: There are so many out there so yes it would be useless

I get your point. However I am talking about an unofficial off-site list. Are you reminded of the old Z8games banned hacker list? It'd be great to track the progress of a report we've done.

The ones I've seen are poorly thought and executed, so I assume there aren't any... I'd like to see one where there are report and search functions, where you can track if the honorable soldier ribbon was lost or not. I wouldn't mind writing something in PHP & MySQL from scratch. Not just their names, but what type of hack used, date reported, Z8Games ID number and other things

    edit: sorry for double post
  • We can't have a hacker database if we can't completely prove people are cheating 95% of the time. I think a more viable option would be a suspicious player database, not a cheater database.

True. Still a database would be useful to gather all the suspicious replays, provide d/l links for the replays and let people deicide by themselves instead of making judgements. However, we'd still have those 5% (?) who are clearly hacking. This means, the hacker profile could have a status label: "Suspicious or Confirmed"
  • Kind in mind that there are a million hackers out there, and the database would be extremely weak in terms on information it could provide.

It would also be a huge hassle to have to deal with a million posts about hackers and then sort them out, and place them accordingly. Not to mention that they'd probably get banned in a month, so the data would also be outdated unless you managed it 24/7.

Unless I wrote a script that checks if the honorable soldier ribbon is still in a determinate profile. But yes, it would be a massive workload...
  • here is one, it's a german site but you can translate it with google.
  • There used to be a 'ban-list' a few years ago on this version but they decided to remove it.
  • Indexing every player by their IGN and giving the end-user searching ability (preferably implementing the use of AJAX and live-search, but this isn't a necessity) and on their profile where you will have the option to fill in reports about the player, attaching .cfr's, screenshots, whatever you please. What would be useful would be somehow differentiating players with 1-2 reports, with players that have 100's of reports on them with some sort of rating system that will make it clear to people that the guy is most definitely cheating just because of the sheer number of evidence against him.

    ^ This.

Live search is easy to implement since the data is stored in a MySQL database, therefore the integration with PHP is pretty standard. I will also come up with a report count, and a way to sort the results by id, report count, and hack type.
  • Your biggest concern is bandwidth, as replays are unnecessarily huge.

Scoring based on number of filed entries is too easily abused, especially if its a famous name, if the scoring is based solely on number of reports and not the validity of each.

You're free to make a database and feature replays, but don't expect it to be allowed on this forum as its an indirect cheating accusation.
  • That thing was utter crap. That reminds me, Z8 web developers are laughably awful. I think they found some random people on the streets of Toronto who probably skimmed through an HTML for Dummies book and hired them as official developers.

I will have to agree with you once more. Let's just say that they have preferred to use ASP as their script language (Knowing that it is heavier than PHP and slows down an already slow server) for the clan page, and I'm yet to see one single day without the so famous "Handling errors".

Wouldn't go as far as you when it comes to labeling them as "awful", but I have to agree that the clan page is poorly built if we consider that it was made by payed professionals.

I agree, the concept still has many flaws, and the "submit hackers" system is still under heavy planning.

As for the rules, don't worry. I won't break any :P

When it comes to the bandwith, I own a limitless server, and they can be hosted in 3rd parties..

He doesn't need to organise the file hosting, just linking to replays. Rapidshare etc can be used for hosting...(and replays ARE oversized, but they do compress a lot)

Its true though, you want quality not quantity. In game it can be very hard to know if someone is hacking - you need the replay and to watch it carefully with a cool head paying attention to what else is going on.

I like this as a monitor idea for the community - so that it is keeping track and then organising data ie. it notices when a player looses an honour ribbon, and tracks on last play date. Perhaps it could include the 1st Support stage, so that people can register when they have actually sent a hack report to Z8

I don't like it if it means the community running its own report & determination system separately.

Tall Poppy syndrome is well and truly alive and kicking in CF - so without very careful controls, you're going to end up with the most adept and well known players getting reported by the loudest mouth trolls.
  • i'd host it myself for easier indexing and reliable hosting, but he can of course go the rapidshare route if thats a road hes willing to take..
