Oops I've quick formatted my 1TB ext hard drive by mistake.Advice?
Title says it all. Don't really know how it happened. Was juggling the usb sockets around then i heard a beep, looked at monitor and said format of F drive complete.
I had many films, music, photos and videos of daughter(which are backed up luckily) over 900GB.I've left the drive untouched and have only been reading data from it so in theory I should have a good chance of recovering most of the data.
I'm running a program ATM called PC inspector file recovery it will take another 11 hours to complete scan and so far has found 17500 files. Problem is I guess I must buy another 1tb external drive to recover the data on.
Any one else managed to recover an accidentally formatted external hard drive an easier way?
Or for that matter anyone suffered from the same situation?

I didn't see the screen until the format had finished. As far as i can see there is no cancel or restore drive feature.
The positive thing is that the drive has not been altered in any way since the format. So i can try scanning with a few programmes over the next days to see which gives the best results.
I'd have to be a mega pirate for a few months to download all those films, games, music etc. again.:) -
Use that. Also make sure you don't add any files onto the hard drive at the current state. Anything you write on top of what's not 'there' will be lost.
The free version is limited to files over 64kb. I'm not sure if that means it finds files over or under 64kb.Will just check my newsgroup.:)
Anyway whatever happens I can't really do anything till monday.Unlike UK , shops do not open on sundays in Germany. So I will have to wait to get another external drive.
No worries about not saving files on the disk.
On the format option screen it has a box with "Restore device defaults." But I don't think it would be a good idea to tamper with this button. -
