I'm having the same problem. I tried all the tricks I could find, and have re-installed twice. I even deleted Minecraft as one post told me, still no go.
It is a "failed to download version.ini." error immediately after clicking start in the launcher, which has never happened in the year I have been playing the game. Please help! -
Open up your Version.ini file from your Crossfire folder. Open it up as notepad.
Then copy and paste this:[VERSION] LatestVersion = 1092 MinimalVersion= 1077 OwnVersion = 5 [DOWNLOAD] server1 = http://cfpatch.z8games.com/download/ [SERVER] COUNT = 1 IP1 =74.200.6.133 PORT1 =13008 [HGW] PORT=16666 SERVER1=74.200.6.161 SERVER2=74.200.6.163 POD1=50 POD2=50
- Then save it in your Crossfire folder. If it won't allow you to save it in your Crossfire folder then save it somewhere else (Desktop) and then copy and replace it to your Crossfire folder.
- Right click on the file called Version.ini then tick the read-only option and click apply.
- Make sure you delete everything in the x-trap folder.
- Now Start Crossfire and it should work.
This works 100% and it does not bring the "Download the latest version of Crossfire" error. - Then save it in your Crossfire folder. If it won't allow you to save it in your Crossfire folder then save it somewhere else (Desktop) and then copy and replace it to your Crossfire folder.

I tried re-installing the game, erasing the X-trap Folder, Version.ini, cookies. But this is the only thing that worked.
Thank you Abel.
